Spending limits

I was going to  get the new iPhone,  but not until I was ready to check out, I was given a down payment message which basically said I have to pay the whole phone in full.  I have been a loyal customer of Verizon for over 5 years and I’m still on their original grandfather planed. But I find this unfair that my spending limit decreased the week of the iPhone release. I’ve put up with a lot of Verizon nonsense in past but I don’t think this is right. Not sure if anyone else has had this happen to them.
