It’s legitimate. I copied the text and pasted it in a chat window on the Verizon app. They applied the discount for me. It was quick and easy. I even recommend they change the procedure to make it look less fishy.

This wasn't fake.
If you are skeptical, then open your "My Verizon" app and chat with a customer service agent who will apply this discount.
Without request I submitted a copy of the message and included the senders number, after I did this my discount went into affect. Hopefully this helps.
