Transfer existing number to Google voice, and get a new local number

I recently moved to Portland, and would like to get a new local number for my Verizon iPhone, and transfer my existing number to my Google Voice account. Does anyone have any suggestions for the best way to proceed with this, hopefully without any service interruption? Thanks!

We definitely want to make sure that you're able to change your number especially now that you moved to a new city. The following link will guide you through the process of changing your number: https://www.verizon.com/support/how-to-change-phone-number-video/
Also, regarding your Google Voice account, we would recommend reaching out to Google directly for additional information. The following link will take you to Google's Customer Support page. https://support.google.com/?hl=en

Hello - thank you for the response.  I'm pretty clear on the individual steps I need to take to get a new number and to transfer to Google Voice. My concern is that I want to make sure that I do things in the correct order, so I don't lose service on my phone, and make sure I don't lose access to my current phone number before I transfer it to Google voice.

Any suggestions on how to make this happen? I was wondering if it's possible to get a new number added to my iPhone (so I have my current number, plus a new local number). Then once that is in place, transfer my current number to Google voice, leaving me with the new local number on my iPhone. Does that sound possible?
