Transfer number

I am the account owner of our family plan. I have my father on my plan and would like to remove him. The problem is, he needs to keep his number. He will not pass the soft credit check to get his own line. Would he be able to transfer his number to a Verizon prepaid plan?

With your father's number being on your account and you being the Account Owner, it is your right to convert your father's line to prepaid service and you must also authorize any transfers of service to another person's account.  However, the website says that to transfer service to another person's account, the recipient must pass the credit check.

I certainly understand the importance of keeping ones number, Schimtty0801. I know I wouldn't want to lose my number. Synthpopaddict is correct that the assuming party does need to pass a credit check. The best option would be to contact our Inside Sales team, as they handle the Postpaid to Prepaid conversion process, and would be able to see if your father is able to pass the credit check to assume the service. You can contact our Inside Sales team at 800-256-4646. Inside Sales is available Mon - Sat from 8AM- 10PM ET and Sunday from 9AM - 10PM ET.

Thanks Joseph for providing the number for Inside Sales.  I have that in my notes elsewhere, but the forum software won't allow regular members to post phone numbers at all anymore.

@Schmitty0801, if it is the cost which is having you consider removing the line and your father won't pass the credit check, what about seeing if you can port your father's number to a budget carrier?  While prepaid service is cheaper than postpaid, it's still more costly than the numerous 3rd party companies, just in case you still have to assume financial responsibility for the line.
