HI,
Over the past year or so, I've lost the ability to send or receive texts several times. Because there is no indication that my texts are not going out and that there are texts I'm not receiving, I often miss important communications. The only way for me to find out is when someone calls or asks me why I'm not responding to their texts, or I call someone when I don't get a response.
This has probably happened 5 or 6 times in the past 12-18 months.
When I am forced to talk to the automated system, it is useless. When I talk to a person, they usually act as if I have no idea what I'm doing, even after I explain that this has happened before. I understand that users have different levels of understanding when it comes to mobile devices so, while frustrating, I understand this part.
But no one seems to be able to explain why this happens. They are able to fix it by doing a "system refresh" or "network refresh" which is meaningless. And it can take anywhere from 15 minutes to 12+ hours for things to resolve once they tell me they've done whatever they're doing on the back end.
Has anyone else run into this situation, and if so, have you been given an adequate explanation of why? I've been with Verizon for an embarrassingly long time, but this is going to be the straw that broke the camel's back for me if they cannot supply a reliable SMS service. SMS is ancient in the tech world. Being unable to provide a stable texting environment is unacceptable.

We're sorry to read about your concern with text messaging on your Pixel device. Are you having this issue currently? Do you get any error message when sending a text message? ~Peter

No, I am not having this issue currently. I had it happen on Saturday, and it was resolved when I woke up Sunday. There is no indication that the texts I send do not go through, and obviously, there is no indication that I did not receive a text.
I'm not looking to troubleshoot a specific incident. I'm trying to understand why this keeps happening and why Verizon seems unable to prevent it. The answers I've received so far have been nebulous. After chatting with one agent Saturday afternoon/evening, they pawned me off on someone supposedly from "Verizon Messaging Tech Support Team" who suggested that, and I quote: "Just randomly restart your device [over the next 72 hours] and services will auto pick up"
When I asked about a transcription of our chat session, it appears Verizon does not have that ability and he suggested I screenshot the 15-20 pages of chat text. I don't think he expected me to do that, but I did.

Well, that last fix didn't last very long. Once again I am unable to receive texts. This time outgoing texts are working, but who knows how long that will last. I was on for an hour with support earlier but we got cut off when they wanted me to conference in another number which would trigger a direct connection to my phone. And now, of course, Verizon support is closed.
I really wish Verizon could give me just ONE reason not to go to T-Mobile tomorrow and move my and my daughters' phones to them. It's been a good 18-year run with VZW. But they rested on their 4g and let others eat their lunch with 5g. Verizon used to have the best network. Now they don't even have that to keep me as a customer.

I have no interest in trying to resolve this in private messages. Taking it all offline does nothing to help the community.
Verizon used to be the best service and worth the extra cost. These days, it's just expensive and subpar service.
And the troubleshooting assistant is a joke. If the issue is not one of the 5 things it knows how to resolve, it hangs up on you.

Well, it's starting up again. I am, once again, unable to receive texts from others. I can send texts but I don't get replies either.
Any VZW techs want to take a shot at it this time?
