I've noticed a substantial charge on my bank account from VERIZON*DIGITAL CHAT E 800-922-0204 FL
How do I determine if this is a charge from VZW/Verizon and not a fraudulent charge?
This does smell like fraud and I'm working with my bank at the moment.

Would dispute the charge with the bank seems rather suspicious to me

I've done just that. VZW customer support has also reached out to be via a PM and is investigating to see if there was an actual charge.

I just got off the phone with Verizon and it was determined that the charges on my account were for taxes on an upgrade ($21.27) and a new phone ($60.70) and the Digital Chat label was because the Digital Chat department was the department who originated the charge. So in my case all is well and not fraudulent although very confusing!! May be the same for others.

VERIZON*DIGITAL CHAT E 800-922-0204 FL $69.52. Is this the tax form an iPad I bought my son?

VERIZON*DIGITAL CHAT E 800-922-0204 FL. I got this shortly after I bought a Verizon iPad. It was the local and state......SALES TAX. I added the two tax amounts up and they matched the charge.....EXACTLY. Verizon Reps do not know this. They cannot find records of this. You have to look through your Verizon receipts and find the SALES TAX.

I'm grateful for the info shared on these Community pages. It's disappointing that Verizon Customer Service is not trained to respond to our questions re "Verizon Digital Chat" charges that show up unexpectedly. The tip that the charge may be taxes related to an ipad purchase makes sense to my particular situation.

Verizon voice call support told us it was for a "chatroom"... after waiting a long time on hold. But they were wrong & you are correct. Thank you for posting this, greatly appreciated!

In my case, it was more than sales tax. It was the equipment upgrade fee, minus a monthly promo credit plus sales tax.

While some of you may find relief in the fact that it was indeed Verizon who charged you, and not some unknown entity. However anyone who paid "tax" for an item at a cost above 10ish% of the ACTUAL sale price of your purchase, then it's still a scams, it just happens to be one of several Verizon runs on a daily basis. Sales tax is based on a percentage of the paid amount, not the original cost. It would be fine if Verizon just called this what it is, but by calling it tax when they have no intention to pay that to any government is illegal as well. Just something to consider next time you do 1 of these trade-ins.

I solved the mystery. When I got a new phone, there was an equipment upgrade fee, a monthly promo credit applied and some state sales tax. This amounted to $36.75. This was put on my credit card the day that the new cell phone was purchased via a Verizon chat. While cleaning out my e-mails I found an e-mail about this and the amount agreed with the charge. My question is why would this appear on my credit card as Verizon Digital Chat is beyond me. Anyway, I'm glad I have an answer.

Took me forever, and several representatives, to find someone to answer the question, "What is the Verizon Digital Chat" charge. This is what I found out.
I bought a new phone. They charge a $35 order fee, plus the sales tax. That should equal the Verizon Digital Chat charge.
Why they do it this way is a mystery. Stupid
