Voice Connect without Verizon Wireless Account

I have an old copper landline that I constantly have problems with.  Verizon has recommended that I replace it with Voice Connect.  I have very poor cellular coverage at my home, but I was told by customer service that the Voice Connect device would not have a problem with this and should work fine.  I DO NOT have Verizon Wireless and therefore no Verizon Wireless account, although I DO have a Verizon account for my current landline.  Will I be required to set up a Verizon Wireless account to make this all work?

I looked up the Voice Connect device, and it needs to have access to cellular service in order to work.  You said you do not have a mobile line with Verizon, but the signal is weak...does this mean you are using a different carrier for your cell phone service and they aren't working well, or someone with Verizon or a Verizon customer in your neighborhood has told you Verizon doesn't have good cellular service where you are?

If it's the first situation, just because one carrier doesn't perform well in a neighborhood doesn't mean all of them don't work.  While Verizon does offer a free trial of their mobile service for 30 days, you won't be able to use it because you're already an existing customer with the landline.  I would ask around to get an idea of how Verizon's mobile service works in your area.

If it's the second situation, then I wouldn't recommend getting the Voice Connect device, because it will be struggling to get service and you won't be happy.  You can look into a VoIP provider in your area to upgrade your copper landline to a newer technology, or see if anyone offers fiber optic landline service, if Verizon doesn't have Fios where you live.

To change/add service(s) with Verizon, you wouldn't need to get a mobile account; they can keep on using your current account.

Thanks for your input on this.  My location is the problem.  We are located down in a valley and all cell provider signals are not good, even though the towers are located between 0.9 mile and 1.5 miles away.  If I go up the driveway about 1/4 mile I am then out of the valley and all carrier signals are great. .  I am currently using Consumer Cellular (AT&T Towers).   If I can just add the voice connect service to my current Verizon account without opening a separate Wireless account with them I would be very willing to give it a try.  I have a tech coming on Monday to take a look at my situation and see what can be done.  Thanks again for you help.

You're welcome!  Being in a valley can be problematic for cell phone service, but I'm wondering if your weak signal is due to your using a discount carrier.  In a nutshell, cell phone service is often a matter of getting what you pay for.

With a tech coming over next week, hopefully they can provide some more advice.  I would definitely ask the person how good the signal strength is at your house before investing in the Voice Connect device.  Best of luck to you.

The tech came this morning.  The first thing he did was to check the signal strength for the Verizon towers and he found that it is exactly the same as the signal strength from my carrier's towers.  The locations of my closest carrier tower and the closest Verizon tower are about 1/2 mile apart.  He said that the signal strength was about as low as it could be to work well with the Voice Connect device.  I had him make the installation and I will see how it goes.  He left here a little more than an hour ago and everything seems to be working well so far.

Sorry to hear your signal strength could be better, but if the Voice Connect device is working, then that's all you need. ๐Ÿ˜Š  If you start noticing your phone calls cutting in/out or people telling you they can't hear you though...then that's a symptom of poor signal strength affecting your call quality and you'd have to look into some other means of getting landline service.

You can order a Verizon home phone or Voice Connect, but opening a Verizon account is required. Please let us know if you have any other questions. -Ross
