If you are getting an error message where the phone only wants a Verizon eSIM or regular SIM, then the phone is NOT unlocked.  I'd get a refund from the seller because you aren't the original owner of the phone, so Verizon will not unlock it for you since the history of the phone cannot be traced.  It's a unfortunate fact that phones which were tampered with or stolen are often disposed of overseas.
