Basic visual voicemail (free for most customers) can save a voicemail to the phones memory.

This is for the 928, but should be similar process. Activate Visual Voice Mail Nokia Lumia 928 | Verizon Wireless

Thank you all for prompt responses. I did not sign up for Visual Voice Mail.

I only had 1 msg and recorded it the old-fashioned way: held it up to my laptop and put it on speaker.

All set.
