Contacts have disappeared from Samsung Stratosphere

My Samsung Stratosphere has suddenly lost all my contacts...after a plain reboot they appear to have vanished.  I have not done anything to delete them.  My groups of family and friends are gone, and my messages are now all just phone numbers missing names and pictures.  I have not backed up the information.  I tried importing from the SIM card on the contacts menu with no luck.  Advice or suggestions greatly welcome at this time.

Hi beaglemixtape!

I'm so sorry to learn that your contacts were removed from your phone! Let's see what we can do for you, since I know this information is important. I do have some troubleshooting steps for you, but you would have needed to back up your contacts info before-hand. Did you sync your Gmail account, or use Backup Assistant at all? Were any email accounts synced? Please let me know so we can work forward. In addition, you are able to check your call records at vzw.com when logging in to My Verizon, to match up your numbers. In the meantime, please let me know if any of your accounts are synced. (Menu>Settings>Accounts & Sync)

Thanks in advance,

I did not activate Backup Assistant, but my Facebook, Gmail and Twitter accounts were all synced beforehand.

Did you turn off the sync with your Gmail account or turn off the display of any of the contacts?

As far as I know the sync has not been turned off with Gmail.  I didn't know there was a way to turn off the display of contacts?

The display of the contact is an option within the Contacts application.  Check under the Menu button for the options available within the app.

Yeah, they're still not there.  Thanks though.

I seem to be having the same problem with my wife's Stratosphere.  I setup the Verizon backup assistant previously with nightly backups - but it shows only 4 contacts backed up as of last night.  Is there anyway to 'roll back' to a previous date in the Verizon backup assistant?

Hello Berelpezzy,

I can certainly empathize with you about your contacts missing. Most of us rely on our contacts for numbers that we no longer remember. I'm confident that we can partner together and get this resolved for you. May I ask have you checked on line to see if your contacts are there? If so then they can easily be synced back to your device? If not then I would suggest checking your Gmail account to see if they are archived there. If you can check this and keep us posted then we can assist.

Thank you...

thanks ArnettH_VZW,

thanks for being there, i checked online and it seems like i can only access the contacts of the primary line on our family plan (which is not my phone)  and Gmail only seems to have email address's stored not phone numbers.

please advise what the next step can be,

thanks

You can create a separate MyVerizon account for each line on your account. The lines that aren't the primary will have access to only the call details for that line and the ability to use Backup Assistant or purchase ringtones for that line.

Mine just did the same thing a couple of days ago, I've tried using the backup program as all of my contacts are still correct online but when it syncs it doesn't download any of the contacts.

My phone did the exact same thing and trying to sync it doesn't work, and my contacts aren't in Gmail or anywhere else I can think of to look.

Same story - all of a sudden, I get an incoming call from my wife's number, but it doesn't show her name.  After that call, I found that ALL of MY contacts are gone.  The ones showing are #BAL, #DATA, #MIN, #PMT - which I believe I had deleted (as I didn't need them).  All contacts I had, I created by adding them "to phone" (as opposed to the card).

Is there ANY chance of getting these back?  Where would they have gone to?  I certainly did not delete them.  I've got all of my work contacts in there as well as my personal ones - many had the addition fields filled in with addresses, anniversaries, birthdays, etc...

Please let me know if there is anything I can do...

Thank you for your time and effort in responding.

Same Happened 2 weeks ago to 06/02/13 and again today 06/16/2013 here's what I did to resolve it:

Turn off phone.

On PC -I  logged in to Verizon wireless using my phone number and then selected "Manage My Contacts". All contact information should appear, if not chick on the tab labeled "Trash" and see if they are there. If so, select all and then select "Undelete".

Contacts should be back in Contact folder tab.

Select All contacts and then click on the "SYNC' button located on the page.

I then turn on the phone - After it select "Settings"then "Accounts and Sync" and click on "Back up Assistant"

at this point all of my contact information downloaded to my phone.

Hope it works for you as well.

Is everyone here having this problem using a Samsung Stratosphere?  That may be something that needs to be addressed ASAP...  (possibly with Samsung, or whoever released the firmware)...  So there are no contacts even with Gmail?  This definitely sounds like something for the Tech department to put in a ticket to fix...  Your best bet for recovering your contacts, I'd think, is with Backup Assistant if you've sync'ed them recently... prior to them vanishing.  You could also ask and see if customer support or tech support show any contact in your BUA trash that can be restored.  Or pull up your contacts from My Verizon (vzw.com/backupassistant) and see if there are any contacts there or in your trash...

I have a similar problem. My stratosphere stopped backing up my contacts in March. When I try to manually back up I get this error message:sync service failed failed to read data from Android Contacts Provider.

I was on the phone Saturday for close to an hour with a very nice person at verizon that was going to call me back within 24 hours to tell me a fix. I haven't heard back on that.

I tried doing the cloud and it doesn't back up contacts. When I looked on backup assistant it says that my stratosphere doesn't work with Backup Assistant.

Any help would be appreciated!

Hello mickiestal! I regret your experience, and particularly that of an unkept promise to reach back out to you about this matter. I noticed that you tried to get your contacts backed up through Verizon Cloud, and that you felt that the Cloud doesn't back up contacts. Indeed it does! It should be backing up all user-added content like that, along with media items like pictures, videos, and music. You can find out more about it at this link: http://vz.to/11ROEig

If you've not yet heard back from the rep, please let me know. You can search the user ID's for my handle (DionM_VZW) and request to follow. That way, we can direct message to get your account pulled up and get this matter resolved. Thanks!

Thank you for your attempted help. I have not heard back from anyone on my phone call. I realize that the Cloud is supposed to back up contacts but it does not. When I go to the cloud it doesn't allow me to pick contacts as a choice to backup and it says that there are 0 contacts. When I followed your link and I got to the backup assistant that was last backed up in March and there are no contacts in it that I have added since March. They are not in the trash either.

Thanks

Mickiesta
