Speaking to my friend who works for Verizon and tests the phones before they come out filled me in NOT to buy the droid and wait for the Droid 2 due out in may/april or the new HTC powerhouse which will have the OS 2.1 on it.

Great idea. I've followed that advice for years. And it's only a minor inconvenience to access this forum on an Apple2.

If you upgrade to a C64, your problems would be over......I mean, why wait?

The Droid is rumored to receive Android 2.1 in January, and the Droid 2 probably won't have a physical keyboard (could be the Motorola 'Shadow'). Either way, I'm sure you'll see some interesting things at CES 2010.

If you're gonna wait, might as well wait forever. What's the point of waiting when EVERYONE knows in a few months something new will come along. It's gonna be more powerful or have this and that feature and so on. Mobile phones are the same thing as computer parts, in 6 months it's already outdated.

Daddy makes a good point. I'd go with the best phone avaliable, when eligible to upgrade.

You have to be careful. and thoughtful. If I had upgraded when eligible in September, I would have gotten the Rogue or env3. Since I started researching over six weeks, I discovered the Droid and navigation (essential for a traveler, I discovered). On top of all the discounts, they gave me a free months service to upgrade since I was overdue. So it can pay to at least keep an eye out. Just don't obsess over it where you prevent yourself from getting a good phone.

You should not upgrade when eligible. You should upgrade when your existing phone (or whatever) no longer meets your needs and there is a good alternative available that does.

I wonder if that'll be the CDMA version of the Nexus One? Looks like a slightly larger, but slimer Eris (with hopefully better battery life).
Here are some recent pictures:

I will be very disappointed if the droid 2, once the flagship smart phone for verizon is straddled with a slower 800mhz processor, intead of a 1ghz or faster. Also once i got the droid i realized how great having a physical keyboard was to just having an onscrean keyboard, absolutely superior. expecially when navigating on the internet. I won't own a smartphone without one.
I fully stand behind the fact that my future decision to upgrade my phone, will hinge on the whether or not it actually represents a real improvement or not. A 800mhz processor is only an incremental update(I have friends that already have their droids overclocked to 800mhz). plus throwing in an 8mp camera isn't gonna do it. How about you fix the horrible low light problem on the original droid, and then worry about more MP's huh. I know this sounds like a rant, and it is. The info is based on a plethora of internet rumors, nothing more, nothing less. Still, I feel that the verizon forums are a good place to let the people involved know what the customers want to see. In fact the views here represent a collective discussion with over 2 dozen droid owners, a small sampling I know, but still a representation of what existing customers want to see in a future product. below is a sampling of some of the features we want to see in an updated droid. Please anyone feel free to voice your opinions and ideas on what you want to see, or not see in the droid 2.
Better keyboard
Snapdragon processor(preferably the new QSD8672)
Improved Camera(low light improvments being the most important)
HDMI video out(I can just imagine the possibilities)
4.3 inch screen(this one is variable, some like the 3.7 some want a larger one, Me included)
Flash support(I know, I know, talk to google and Adobe, it's still a function people want)
A wider range of accessories(camera additions, projector-this could be solved with video out, wink wink, etc). The idea of a docking screen, that would turn the droid 2 into a tablet pc was also mentioned and we all agreed that it was a fantastic idea.
Better graphics capablilties(Always, lol)
This is some of the features that were layed out, please others, imbelish and let everyone know what you would like to see!!

Probably the best post I've read on here. I'm laughing so hard my co-workers are giving me the "**bleep**" Look.

Nah Dude , quit spreading rumors. There is no way no how that a droid 2 phone is coming out this soon. Maybe next year. You have to realize that Verizon is investing millions in advertisement for the Droid. It would be a waste a money to invest that much adverstisement in this phone and come out with a sequel 4 months later. Doesn't make sense. Verizon has already reserve a commercial slot for the Droid during the SuperBowl. To run a commericial during the Superbowl is a million dollars a second. The Droid will still crush the nexus one in sales because T-mobile doesn't have the dough that Verizon has to back it as far as marketing it. The nexus one is a better phone but will not touch the Droid in sales next year , you can bet on that and don't even bother looking for the Droid 2 until the end of 2010 maybe.

Agreed. The infamous "Droid 2" wil be one of two things:
The keyboard-less, completely touchscreen Moto Droid
OR
The Motorola Calgary/Devour. That's not the "Droid 2," or in fact anything near it. It's just another phone that's released with MotoBLUR.

"Droid" can get confused with a variety of phones now...basically anything running Android. Maybe Droid 2 is a misnomer for Google's phone, rather than Motorola's. Also, with all this talk about T-mobile getting the Google phone...I thought the phone was going to be "unlocked" and that any carrier could use it. Does that mean Verizon won't activate it?

Verizon will have it. Look at the thread I posted.
