My first thought here is that you might have corrupted something on the SD card if you failed to tell windows (or what ever OS you had) to "safely remove" the SD card before you unplugged it from your computer. When you transfer data directly to an SD card, the operating system may "say" it's done transferring the data, but that doesn't mean it actually has closed up all the files on the SD card properly.
The second though was why you bothered to remove the SD card to put data on it. You can simply hook up the data cable included with the phone, and mount the entire phone to your PC to copy music and such to it. When you plug the phone into your computer, an indicator will show up at the top (The pull-down notifiation area.) Pull the notificaion bar down, and you will have a notificaiton that the phone is connected by USB, click the notificaiton and you will have an option to "Mount SD" click it, and the phone's memory card will show up as an external drive on your computer. When you are ready to disconnect, pull down the notification window again and tell it to disconnect the SD card. It's a whole lot easier.
I can't remember seeing anyone else posting a similar problem, so it defintiely sounds like something got corrupted or a fluke as you call it.
