Duplicate Contacts from facebook friends

My contact list has a lot of duplicate entries - from contacts I had in my phone already and from facebook. Does anyone know how to get rid of the dupes other than manually deleting them? Should I Un-Sync facebook? If I do that, though, I'm afraid I'll lose info I want to keep.

 

I also have a ton of friends on facebook whom I do not need on my cell phone contact list. I'd like to get rid of those as well.

 

Any suggestions?

I have this same problem.  When I went into the Verizon store, they told me to uninstall the Facebook application, then re-install it but that didn't work.  I also tried deleting the duplicate entry but that deletes both contacts. 

 

What I have been doing it going into each contact and unlinking it from Facebook, saving the entry then go back in and re-linking Facebook info to the contact.  Very time consuming!  And I've noticed that the FB name that the entry says the contact is linked to is sometimes wrong... sometimes even linked to people that I don't have contact info in my phone.  Not sure what happened or an easier what to fix.  If anyone knows, that would be extremely helpful!

You can filter what contacts are displayed by opening contacts, press menu and select edit diplay groups. You can choose which groups are synced by pressing menu and selecting edit sync groups.

UPDATE:  I figured out how to remove the duplicate contacts with Facebook links.  For the Droid, follow this: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-general-discussions/8248-duplicate-facebook-profiles.html

 

For the Eris:  Menu > Settings > Social Network > Facebook (logout, YES) ...  if you go back to your contacts you'll see that the entries are no longer duplicated and that the FB linked pictures and status' are gone.  Go back to Menu > Settings > Soical Network > Facebook (login) and the info should be back in your contacts (or slowly coming back).  If not, go to People > Updates & Events and it should prompt you to relink your contacts to FB if it doesn't do it automatically.

 

It worked for me... hope it works for you!
