So I can't wait for the nexus because I'm too excited about the Eris so I'll be getting my Eris tomorrow, well today really but anyways. I thought I'd ask you guys what are some of the basic apps you use and which ones I will want to make sure everything runs smoothly.
I'm hoping Home++ works on the Eris because I like the features it has and how it's setup. I use facebook a lot and from what I've seen on some of the threads is that if you have a lot of friends they get merged with your contacts (not to sure if it happens exactly like that) but yeah. I'm guessing a task killer would be useful so I can easily shut off apps that aren't in use or are causing problems.
Also if you have any app recommendations post the names because I may be interested, the ones I posted are just the ones I can think of now.
Thanks guys.

If you can wait for the Nexus and have no problem paying the extra money for it, I would wait. While I love my Eris, I've used a Nexus and there's just no comparison. It even makes the Motorola Droid feel like last year's model. It's a beautiful phone and super fast, though I'm sure it will be more expensive.
Do NOT install a task killer on your android phone, android is not windows, there's just no need. If anything it will make the OS phone slower and more "laggy". If you want to know why, there are plenty of threads on this forum and others that talk about how android works and why there's no need to "kill" an application. The root of the issue is this: If a application is bogging down your phone, blame the application, not android. Killing it is masking the symptom, not solving the real problem. From my experience, task killer apps (I've tried them all) cause more problems than they solve.

I have no app recommendations, but just wanted to tell you how lucky you are! I just played around with an Eris at the store and liked everything about it: size, looks, trackball, browser.
So ... it's been a day ... what are your first impressions?

well i played with it all last night and now i have neck pains which was worth it because id say i got the hang of most of it. I haven't added any apps on it yet. since this is my first smartphone i can't really compare it to others but for my first one i'm loving it, i love the touchscreen keyboard in the widescreen since it's easier to type with but that's a nice feature that I like. as far as how it runs it runs smooth about 99% of the time and the other 1% is when it gets stuck loading something i don't want to load and i press back or home when it's loading freezes for about a second, but that's not really the phones fault just my clumsiness pressing the wrong things. browsing is nice and smooth and fast enough for me. the voice quality when in a call is very clear compared with my old crappy phone which isn't surprising and texting is flawless.
to be honest I don't really have anything bad to say about the phone other than i can't wait for the update to come out so i can use the GPS TBT nav. oh and the battery life could be better but if you make sure to turn off the gps and net when you're not using them that helps a lot.

A couple tips/hint
1) Don't install too many apps or the phone will slow to a crawl. Turn off notifications you don't care about or the phone will slow down
2) battery will get better over time, especially if you do what I said in number 1.
3) Don't install a task killer, if an app needs to be killed because it's hogging resources, the app sucks

Yeah I don't plan to add many apps, perhaps a ringtone app and a app that allows me to login to aim and msn. can't really think of anything else unless i find a nice free theme. i have a pretty much setup on my second home screen i have all the shortcuts to turn off the gps and internet and the others that pull information from the net and cause the battery to die faster.
so far so good, i'm really happy with the phone.

truelove, how do you turn off or disable notifications you don't care about? Can't find anything in the user manual.
