how about having Samsung unlock the service menus that allow the customers to run test on their phones? Like every galaxy phone other than Verizon, if you dial *#06#, it gives the IMEI, or

CodeDescription
*#1234#to check software version of phone.
*#12580*369#to check software and hardware information.
*#0228#Battery status (ADC, RSSI reading)
*#0011#Service Menu

Just not on Verizon's products!

Complain to Samsung.

Samsung cant change it without Verizon! They work hand in hand on programming the device for each individual company. that's why each company has their own BLOATWARE to put on devices. Each provider has guidelines for the manufacturers, and Verizon is aware of this and how it can also solve some issues when you can actually utilize these test menus. To test the display or battery. or to calibrate your compass. or to get your IMEI. or any of the many other useful tools in these menus!

Samsung can too change it without Verizon. Samsung can make it a standard feature which is included in all variations instead of charging extra to have the option.

Samsung cannot change it because they get the programming for the device from the Carrier. then they have to implement that into the system updates.

Then explain why other phone models on the Verizon Wireless network have access to those menus. I know for a fact that the HTC phones can access the testing menu and have since 2009.

because it is how Verizon contracted it with Samsung! I have already had this discussion with both sides of the fence. it is only because Verizon has this do what they want attitude. The FCC made rules and Verizon don't play by rules. And why are you sticking up for Verizon and their rip off ways? I just want access to my Samsung phones as they are intended. Don't miss the Part About CONTRACT!

So your logic is Verizon contracted to not include the testing *#*#4636#*#* menu on the Samsung phones, but yet allows it on others? If Verizon was concerned about the customers having access to the hidden menus, wouldn't it be more logical to restrict access the menus for ALL of the devices connected to the network? For example, Verizon Wireless and other carriers require the bootloader to be locked on all of that carrier's branded devices. That isn't the case with the testing menu since the other manufacturer models have it available.

Your logic is unsound.

Would be nice to be able to do things on your own phone that you bought and payed big bucks for. I understand about their apps having to be on it but would be nice not to have all the bloatware taking space  battery and memory.

I would just like to see them give a little back to the people who make them who they are US THE CUSTOMERS. Stop locking us out of our $900 phones and let us have the access we pay for!

And maybe do some maintenance to their structure and make it as reliable as they say they are and they used to be...

I must admit I don't fully understand why one type of phone on the same carrier can do one thing and yet another phone can't. The bottom line I wish Samsung had the same contract with Verizon as Apple has with them. I feel that this is one of the reason we get so many problems when they send out an update it does not matter if it is just for a security update or a full software update. There is so much bloatware on these phones and some of the apps from the carriers them self are rated so low that I wish they would spend more time fixing the first version to get it to work right before they try adding more things to the app. I know I am having so much problems with the update on the Verizon app that I would not be surprised that if I get another update security or even a nougat update that I am going to have problems that no one will be able to help because neither Samsung or Verizon will know which app could be causing it.

According to Samsung it is part of their contract with Verizon. 1-888-480-5675 Samsung's Office of the President.

And if you take a Samsung galaxy S7, S6, Note5 (any one of Samsung's Smartphones) from Att or sprint or any carrier besides Verizon, Those codes will work! And that list is bigger, those were just examples.

You still haven't proven why the testing menu works for the other manufacturer's models of phones. The Google Pixels and HTC phones can access the testing menu on Verizon Wireless.

Diggerdrgroff, I totally understand where you are coming from regarding using certain codes in order to access information about your device. Verizon customers have no need for these codes, as most of this can be found in your devices settings or can be assessed using the device health check we have here > http://vz.to/2hnWj4E for our android devices. I hope this helps resolve your concerns.

yes, that may be the case. but i do not see anywhere to test the lcd, or to calibrate the compass. Verizon health check is nowhere near as in depth as these codes!

Code

Description

*#1234#to check software version of phone.
*#12580*369#to check software and hardware information.
*#0228#Battery status (ADC, RSSI reading)
*#0011#Service Menu

What do you need to go futzing around with all of these codes for anyway?

Does your phone work?

Verizon doesn't allow these because people who don't know what they're doing will be in there and mess things up and then blame Verizon for it.

Frankly, if you don't like how Verizon allows devices to access their network, maybe you should switch to a provider who doesn't care what you do to your device.

What I want to do with my device is my business. I am the one that is paying $900 for it. If I do have an issue with the device, I would like to be able to do the test on it that I am supposed to be able to do. I work all over the country and sometimes my compass is off an I cannot find the exact coordinates that I am looking for and my map puts me in the wrong place. There is a test code that would calibrate said compass to help prevent that problem. But then Verizon [Removed] don't realize that they are breaking the rules of the FCC by regulating said phones. If you go out and purchase a device, don't you want it to live up to it's potential? I know I do as well as a lot of others in the world! And sorry that I may be slightly smarter than some, but i know what I am doing in these test areas of the devices. I work on cell phones, and repair them all the time
