Text message issue
Example, I have a contact named "Jane Doe". When I receive a text from "Jane Doe", I see it arrive in the notification bar, but it shows up as "John and Jane Doe". Why does it do that??
Contact phone number formatting
There are many ways to enter phone numbers for contacts. What is the proper format that Android recommends for phone numbers (US)?
- 1-000-000-0000
- 000-000-0000
- 10000000000
- 0000000000

Also, When I open the text, it's from the right contact name. Not sure why it would use another name. I do have two gmail accounts, but only have contact syncing with one.

The only thing I can think of with your texting issue is that you may have the same number saved for both parties. In your example it gives the impression of a married couple and Android (or maybe Gmail if they share a common email address, though I wouldn't think that would affect texting) may combine them in this way.
Number formatting: I simply input numbers as the ten digit number (your fourth example) (cell phones haven't required the 1 in front for years, I think it's implied as default) and that is also how they are displayed in my contact list. Placing the 1 in front shouldn't harm anything, and for some toll free numbers, they may not dial out properly without it (I've run into that a couple times) but, like I said, it's not necessary.
