Track my teens FREE

I am looking for reliable way to track my teens phone FREE without having to download an app on their phones or pay some ridiculous fee each month. I already pay over 250.00 a month for our service and I don't think it's right to have pay another 10.00 a month for the family locator that should come standard with our service.. Anyone have any suggestions or thoughts?

If Verizon offers this service at no charge to you, who will pay for it? Me? The one with no kids/teens? To offer a service means that Verizon has more technology to build and maintain and that costs money. The cost has to be handed to someone. In this case it is offered as an additional service with a fee. You either subscribe to their fee based service or you parent as suggested in a previous post.

Now, if you want a free tracking service you do the following:

Lay out the rules to your children by letting them have a smartphone you must have their usernames and passwords. If they have iPhones you will need their Apple ID and PW. If they have an Android you need their Gmail email address and PW. To track an iPhone you go to icloud.com and enter the Apple ID and PW and you can locate. For Android you go to google.com/android/devicemanager and enter the Gmail information. Know that the device being tracked may receive an alert that it is being tracked.

However, please don't ask for an additional service to be included in the monthly plan for everyone when not everyone wants or needs it. I have enough fees attached to my bill I don't need any more. That is like me saying that I don't want to pay the $1 per month for Ring Back Tones and that it should be free. Do you want Ring Back Tones? Do you want to pay for something you don't want or need because I ant it to be free?

We are here to help. We understand the need to keep track of your loved ones. There is no free service out there without downloading an application on their device,

Again that is a service that should be provided free of charge for your

customers with teens on their plan!! We pay well over $3,000.00 dollars a

year for your service so I don't feel like we should be pay nearly another

$120.00 just for peace of mind that our teens are safe. You all should

really work on that as a customer courtesy, I know your it would be

appreciated by more then just me and my wife..

How does Verizon know you have teens on your plan? I have my 16-year-old son on mine, but his name and age are not on my account or my bill. Ensuring your kids are behaving responsibly is your job as a parent. Verizon provides wireless phone service, not location tracking services. A couple of times,I have had my son FaceTime me from the living room of the friend he went to hang out with, if I don't trust that's where he went. In the world we are living in, parents have to be vigilant and take the responsibility upon ourselves to keep our kids safe and honest. That is not the responsibility of a communications company that provides service to YOU, and in reality, YOU are the one providing that service to your kids.

What do you think your parents did...seriously...we all pay for phone service...back in the day...parents paid for home service. Be thankful for the technology and take parenting control on your own....it's not your phone ..it's you

To the smarty lady who was wondering who would pay the cost for the traking app who said it would be u. I think it should come with the plans sence we sure as heck pay enough for the phones an service. the women asking the? about tracking her teens never ask for u or anyone else to pay it did she. She jus said she to thought it should come with the plans for free. So plz keep your rude smarty thinking ur better than everone else comments to your self.

Without trying to get too personal and/or offending you...this isn't really the appropriate forum for this query. Check the services section on Verizon's site and see if they offer anything like that. It's likely whatever you are looking for will cost extra though...I would insist on meeting your teens friends' parents, getting their phone numbers directly, setting up and enforcing rules with your kids regarding you calling and them answering when not at home. This sort of technology is new and the type of parenting you are inquiring about isn't new and has been done effectively without technology for years. It just requires some diligence and honest discourse with your kids. I hope that last part didn't offend, but if you don't want to fork up the cash for tracking services, you're going to have to make up for it with extra effort.  Good luck. Teens are a handful.

whether free or not, you'll still need an app on their phone.

I'd add that the service costs a fee for a reason.  And, having no other lines on my plan, I don't want to pay extra for a service I don't need.  So, I wouldn't want it automatically included.

Switch to iPhones, and you get this for free with Find My iPhone. No app needed on the iPhone. You can lock down the setting so it cannot be turned off by the teen. Of course the teen can turn off the phone or leave the phone with someone else.
