WHY IS THE DEVOUR NOT UPDATED YET???????? I've been asking Motorola the same question. Can any VZW rep tell us what's going on? We have been patiently waiting for the update and have been told nothing. Or have Devour users been left in the dark because our phone wasn't a popular seller? I think all the Devour owners need to start telling VZW and Moto how we feel!

While most Android fans are excited about Android 2.2, they would be perfectly happy to get even the Android 2.1 update. Motorola users now know approximately how long they will have to wait to receive the 2.1 upgrade as Moto has updated their Android upgrade timeline. The Droid is the only device to have the update right now, although the Milestone update is currently rolling out across the world. Updates for the Cliq and the Cliq XT are planned for Q2 this year while the Backflip is scheduled to receive the update in Q3. Other devices, like the Devour, are still having their updates evaluated. It's nice to finally know when updates are scheduled for these Motorola devices, but it's somewhat disappointing that the update is to Android 2.1 and not Froyo. When you're stuck on Android 1.5 or 1.6, though, we're sure that you'll take whatever update you can get.
Just so you know. Its Google delaying the update. Not Verizon. And I found that link with timelines for you and this paragraph. Hope it helps!

I do appreciate how quickly you responded, but that link isn't the answer I'm looking for. Yes, I got the minor update, but not the one that allows my phone to look at flash from a browser. Moto is saying it isn't them, Google is saying it isn't them, Verizon is saying it isn't them either. There are launch dates set for EVERY Android phone on the market that aren't running the updates...EXCEPT the Devour. The pending review excuse is getting old. I want the update for 2.1 with flash I was told I was getting when I bought the phone. And I know I'm not the only one that feels this way, because we're complaining over on the other boards as well. If you guys are saying it's Google holding it up, maybe you should get on them. You're letting another company stand in the way of YOUR satisfied customers. I feel as if faulty/not up to par phones are starting to become the norm for Verizon, seeing as every phone I've had from Verizon has had serious issues(All 4 different ones)

I understand your frustration. I did more research for you and find nothing more on the subject. Like for instance 2.2 Froyo is coming out soon and only 4 phones out right now are going to get that update and a few months down road on that. Only the Incredible, EVO, and the Nexus One are the only ones expected to get 2.2.
To be honest it all starts with Google, they have to approve it, then send to Motorola, in which they will get it cleared with Verizon to send out the update. Just my thoughts and from what I have read that is how I understand it to work. Android owner is Google..So I imagine they are they ones to get the ball rolling. Try making threads on each of the forums and get something going with it.

2.2 has already been released by Google. It will or does have Flash support. If you are lucky the Devour will completely bypass 2.1 and go straight for 2.2. Who knows though.

I have been all over the Moto board and all they are doing is getting upset and blaming other services as well. I think Verizon should be getting us more answered though. I was talked into this phone by an authorized dealer, had a problem with it and took it back, and the Verizon rep that happened to be there today helped convince me not to change it to the Droid...because the update was supposed to be coming out and I'd love the phone then. Now I have a phone, that while isn't a bad phone at all, isn't the one I wanted and now isn't getting what I was personally promised. I feel like Verizon has a TON of reps frm both corp. stores and authorized dealers that will say whatever it takes to make a sale, and something needs to be done about it. I know I personally probably wouldn't be upset if I wasn't sold a phone based on the premise of something that was never guarenteed. While I try to keep up with current cell phone technology, I shouldn't have to know everything about every phone in order to not get dupped.

Any word yet on the update? Any thing from anyone about the Devour? Or are the Devour users just going to get left in the dust?

Devour review, from day one you can expect that a $100.00 phone is not going to really get you much. Don't get me wrong, it's a decent phone but if you want good updates it'll take a little more than the middle of the road phone to get them right away.

Now... A controversy surrounds the Android platform and if it's fragmented or not. Basically it comes down to if the software can just be updated with a tap of the update button. Real problem is these phone manufacturers have to test the software on the phone, test the hardware with the software, add the "motoblur" or "sense" to the phone, test, test, build new phones, test new software on phones from a month earlier with older software, and so on..
Android is releasing too many versions too fast, and promising people they'll get it. Not only that but the added UI's phone manufactures add is slowing down the pace updates are ready for release.
Take the Nexus One for example. Google Android only - no User Interface. Update ready... soon..
I see updates like 2.2 ready to release soon but I'm not getting my hopes up too soon. I know HTC has bigger things to do.
I feel/think that when it comes to VZW getting updates for phones it's a huge political game between Android/Google/Phone Maker/VZW and so on..
You can always start trying to go after Moto like the Samsung Behold II..
They have 1.5 and were promised 2.0 eventually, never happened, started complaining, are getting 1.6 the end.

The Devour is a low-end Android phone. Unfortunately, it's not one of the biggest phones and probably isn't much of a concern to Motorola and Verizon. Sure, it might receive a 2.1 update. But I wouldn't expect that to happen any time soon. You said you want Flash. You need to have 2.2 in order to do that. So it really won't be happening any time soon.
The Nexus One is the only phone that has received a 2.2 update because it's Google's phone. The Motorola Droid is one of the next phones to receive the update. And I'm sure the HTC Incredible will be another phone that gets it relatively early once everything has been tested with the Sense UI and Verizon tests it.
There really isn't anything you can do except wait and see what happens. Or you can buy a high-end Android phone. Motorola and Verizon will most likely never tell you anything about if/when the update is coming. Unfortunately, most of the employees don't know the answer to this.

From Verizon in response to our troubles with securing the Caland update:
Calgary is the version provided by Motorola, meaning it's an Android-based smartphone by Motorola. CALAND_X_01.15.08P is the latest software released for the Motorola Devour. To check for the software version on the device follow these steps:Applications > Settings > About phone.
HTH,
Morgan
Verizon Wireless
Area Operations
Can you tell me if this Caland version mentioned above is the 2.1 update? Just bought this phone in June and it currently indicates the Calgary version... not the Caland version and we cannot seem to get the caland version that is suppose to be available. When we check for update we are told "no update is available" and "your phone is up to date" even though per the verizon rep response above on 07-20-10 the Caland version is available. I have inquired about this several times and repeatedly get the same response from Verizon rep on how to go about checking for the update on the phone. This ain't working!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and i cannot get an answer that works!!! Any ideas....anyone?

That rep obviously doesnt know whats goin on. anytime u want help with a motoblur phone go to motorolas support site first. none of the service providers seem to have tech support people that have messed with or even really know what motoblur is. u search motorolas site for "calgary" u get 7 results...search it for "caland" u get zero....doesnt exist. also always look at the version numbers not the names. calgary is 1.15.109 where as the supposed caland was 1.15.08. the newest version will always have the higher number

The Devour will not be upgraded. It will remain on Android 1.6 for the best combined hardware and software experience:
