Why can't I open a backup file on my computer?

I saved my back-up and emailed it.  It says Word doesn't open this kind of file anymore?

Whenever I want to open a backup file from SMS Backup and Restore, I copy the .xsl stylesheet along with the backup .xml file to a folder on my computer.  Then when I double-click the .xml document, it opens up as a table in my browser.

You can also open it with a text editor such as Notepad or Textpad although a little harder to read then what Tikibar1 suggested
