I don't understand why everyone is saying that the phone is unusable. I don't have an issue with using it except for decreased battery life and the wifi notification issue. Every manufacturer has issues with major software updates like this. I used to use iPhone (which will never happen again especially after helping a friend get hers all backed up and making free space) and I can tell you that Apple has its own issues with software. It's just the nature of the beast.

I don't think you grasp the significance of the issue. For example if you rely on Google Hangouts as your primary messaging platform (I receive most calls and messages via my Google Voice number) and you are receiving messages a few hours later it's a major issue. If a friend texts me to meet at the gym and I get it 2 hours later, they are already done with the workout. Or if there is an emergency I won't be immediately notified via text. This is very frustrating and makes the device nearly unusable. I've dealt with other software issues in the past and typically their is reasonable work arounds. I've yet to find one for the wifi issue (and it has not been perfect over 4G either).

Like I said if it is not addressed soon, I will need to get a different device even though I really like the LG G3.

One of the first things i did when i got my phone (G3) was to take the apps that i'll be using the most out for a test drive. One of them was the messaging app. Come to find out there are three of them. I tested all three.

My choosing the Hangouts app was a no-brainer. It was the only messaging app where i was able to send and receive SMS and MMS with no delay, and without needing to be connected to wifi or mobile network.

I believe the problems that some folks are having with the Hangouts app has to do with either incorrect settings in the Hangouts app, or with the cellular network in their area. If it's the Hangouts app setting(s), that can be easily remedied. If it's the cellular network, then the ball is in VZW's court.

So let's break this down. I also have a Google Voice number that I set up for work because I refuse to give my personal number out. I have gone to the website and have set it to ring on my personal number (it uses my unlimited minute plan). So when I get calls from that number they come through the actual phone app not Hangouts. You can even have your texts forwarded to that number.  Have you tried going to the Wi-Fi settings and selecting the Advanced option and setting the Keep Wi-Fi on when screen is locked to No? That has worked very successfully for me. The only downfall I see to this is that if you are streaming music with the screen turned off it will most likely switch to mobile data. I don't do too much streaming so I don't know this for sure. However, I do get my notifications. Yes, I agree that it is a problem. I want it to be fixed. I totally think that it has taken way too long for that patch to come through but I haven't complained about it. I just deal with it. I have faith that it will get fixed.

Much like many other users, my connection over wifi has been very inconsistent. The most bothersome issue has been notifications. In particular the Hangouts app does not show notifications in a timely manner. For example I often receive text messages a few hours late. This started happening right after the Lollipop update and was not an issue in the past. It is much better over 4G but I end up using all my data and it still has not worked perfectly. Other apps have a slower refresh time and connection in general. I have tried the following:

1. Uninstall Hangouts and reinstall Hangouts

2. Factory reset

3. Factory reset again

4. Turned wifi off when screen is off in advanced settings

5. Switched to LTE/CDMA from Global in Network Mode Settings

6. Downloaded Dnset

The only thing that has consistently worked is the Dnset and as we know this is risky since it is sending all of your data to an unknown server. The only other method that appears to fix the issue consistently requires root which I wouldn't prefer to do.

If we could just get any clarification that an update is at least being worked on by Verizon and any kind of expected timeline for the update would be great.

Thanks for the response. The problem with the forwarding for Google Voice messages and calls is it still doesn't address those that send messages via Hangouts. Also, I have done the following to troubleshoot the issue:

But it's not as though I'm just sitting around complaining. I'm proactively trying different methods to address the issue but they have not worked with any kind of reliability. And this is a Verizon forum for issues, so the more people vocalizing the problem, the better especially since this issue seems to be quite widespread.

ive asked verizon about the issue and noone seems to want to answer me. ive reset my phone like they said to try 2 times now. i turned off my data when the wifi is on, nothing. my phone is on cdma/lte, nothing. not only with the wifi but the battery life isnt like it was and since i half the time cant use it theres no reason for it to die that fast. i dont get all of my text or calls anymore and now my phone is freezing and over heating. it makes no sense to pay for service when i cant even use my phone 50% of the time anymore. has anyone got a answer yet about the update?

DNset was the only thing that worked for me as well. My phone is no longer overheating and battery life is almost back to normal. Notifications back to normal. I don't see an alternative to this app as none of the other fixes worked. I would prefer an update versus using this app.

The update is out there. It's up to the OEMs (LG, Samsung, HTC, etc, etc.) to send it out. If and when the OEMs send it out, that's when the back and forth testing  between the OEMs and the wireless carriers, in this case VZW, will begin.

For you and everyone having this problem, and any other problems with your phone's software.  Your beef is with the OEMs. They're the ones holding back the 5.1 update.
