Contacts: Google vs. Phone

Most of my contacts are just friends and family.  So, what's the best way to put them on the phone?  As a google contact or as a phone contact?

In addition, how do I get all the nonsense stuff from my google account not to show up.  Like replies to craigslist adds and such?  Do I just not have my google account sync the contacts?

you should be able to set up some filters on your gmail account that won't push to your phone. also you could set it up so it will never sync mail and you can do it manually whenever you want to know if you got mail.

as far as contacts it is best to have them stored as a google contact so you can easily transfer from phone to phone or if you lose that phone its all backed up on gmail. You could also open up people and export to sd card, or even run back up assistant

For me, the best way to handle contacts is to export them to the sdcard. I don't sync with Google or backup assistant.

How do you set up the filters on google so as not to push to the phone? I definitely don't want everything on my google account (especially all my contacts) to be on the phone.

Thanks!

pearson100,

If you sign in to your Gmail account on a computer, you gain deeper management of your contacts. Click on "contacts" in the left pane and you will see a way to create groups and then add contacts to those groups. The "filtering" part is done on the handset. While in your contact list, press the menu key and choose "view" or "display options" (depending on your phone). Now you can check or remove the groups you want to show on your phone.
