DO NOT GET INSURANCE FROM ASURIAN
Moiraine
Newbie

Its a rip off.  I just paid my $89 deductible and received a replacement phone that did not turn on the next day.  I spoke to a manager, they sent me a refurbished phone.  I am now sending back their phone.

Save yourself the hassle, but a good case and keep your new phone safe...

Thank you for your feedback. Adding to what was stated, we respect your opinions as people differ in either wanting or not wanting the coverage. It is suggestion to have the insurance coverage in case your phone is lost, stolen, or has physical or water damage. When you file an insurance claim from Asurion, they are suppose provide a new phone unless there are none available in stock or a similar like-device. For example, if there are no Droid Incredible available, you may be offered a Droid X determined by Asurion. For any further inquiries and benefits, please use this link: http://www.phoneclaim.com/verizon

All insurance is a ripoff. You pay every month for the comfort of knowing if something ever happens you'll be covered. Would be nice to get someone of that money back for not filing a claim.

Allstate send you bonus checks if you do not put in a claim. Or that is what they tell you in their commercials. :smileyhappy:

I checked into that a while ago. You have to sign up for a particular policy in order to get those special perks.

I got a new car after I wrecked mine.  Just saying...  Also my deductible on my car was ~1.25% of the value of the car...Not 20%.  He is correct in saying don't get the insurance.  It's a complete scam.

At least you got something!! All i have managed to get when I go in to Verizon hoping to get my Droid from freezing up, texts not being consistently sent, or getting a call on my home phone because someone cant reach me on my cell and I say it never rang or if it did ring I could not answer because the phone was frozen and I could not drag the icon to answer the phone... is their well rehearsed line of I can't dupicate the problem, the hinge is loose so that might be part of it but you are elgible for an upgrade. If I wanted an upgrade I would walk into a store (not verizon) because for one thing you have to wait for your mail in rebate in order to get the advertized price of a phone...but I would walk into some retail establishment to BUY a phone. I pay the stupid insurance premium every month foolishly thinking if my phone has an issue that they would at the very least loan me a phone while mine is fixed or replace it with one if it cannot be... the only advice on my vist two days ago...you guessed it ...you ARE elgible for an upgrade and your phone has way outlived its expected shelf life you should really just cancel the warranty after two years. Is it really too much to ask that if the phone you have is not performing as it should to have the insurance company to pay to have it fixed???? If i had not bought the insurance I would have the 144.00 towards the 200.00 price to buy a new phone. DEFINITELY a rip off when you cannot even have a phone sent off to have it checked out

Im glad I got insurance, i cracked my droid x screen TWICE. I did pay 89 dllrs but cheaper than a new phone at the time. Asurion gives you a ONE YEAR warranty. The first phone was a refurb, the second one amazingly was a new one. The insurance automatically cancels on you if you file a second insurance claim on a 12 month period. Insurnce is like on a car, peace of mind. You crash your car = deductible Break your phone = deductible Its why insurance companies are still in business, because people ask for it, need it, want it! Yo dont have to have it if you dont want to, just dont expect a cheap phone if yours breaks or gets stolen.

Warranties/Extended Warranties/Insurance does NOT cover software issues.

To the other poster about filing a second claim, the 2 claim limit is on ALL LINE.... NOT 2 CLAIMS PER LINE, 2 CLAIMS PER ACCOUNT. I have 4 lines,  had 1 claim on two lines in a 3 month period, and when they told me that I could not file another claim for a year, I canceled my insurance on ALL LINES.

Yes it is piece of mind in case something happens to your phone. but the limitations on this insurance precludes me from buying insurance again. Verizon cannot do anything about it because its not their business......

So to each their own...... buy it if you want, just know the limitations ahead of time. :smileyvery-happy:

Hello ,

It saddens me to hear that you had the insurance removed on your devices. As reallyniceguy stated, the deductible on an insurance claim is a LOT cheaper than full retail on any device. This value, alone, makes the insurance worthwhile. I always has insurance on my devices and the piece of mind that it provides is priceless, especially since I now have an Iphone.

I also would like the opportunity to clarify how many claims can be made with Asurion when you have the insurance on your phone(s). If there are 2 claims within a 12-month period then the insurance is removed from the line. For example, if your phone was stolen every 13 months then you can make a claim and keep insurance on the line well beyond 2 claims. Also, the account does NOT share insurance claims. If you have a 4 line account and all 4 devices are stolen then you can make 4 separate claims, one for each line, and still have insurance on all 4 lines, assuming that this is the 1st claim within a 12-month period on each line. I would like to use my experience as an example.

My Iphone 4 (32GB) was stolen on my primary line. I filed an insurance claim and paid $199 for a replacement instead of $749.99. My niece cracked the screen o her Iphone 16GB on a secondary line and I had to pay $169 to have hers replaced. Yes, I paid it seeing that I was trying to get the Uncle of the Year award! Finally, my sister lost her Iphone 16GB white and I filled a 3rd claim, yes a 3rd claim, to have hers replaced. As it stands today, all 3 lines on the account is still protected by Asurion if something were to happen to one of the many iPhones on the account. Check out this chart.

Device                      Full retail               Deductible               Savings

My iPhone                $749.99                 $199                         $550.99

Niece's iPhone          $649.99                 $169                         $480.99

Sister's iPhone          $649.99                 $169                         $480.99

Total                         $2049.97               $537                        $1512.97

I think that the numbers speak for themselves. I saved over $1500 just by having insurance on all 3 lines. Hopefully this chart will inspire someone to see the value in having our insurance on their device.

Thank you...

Or, don't get insurance and pay FULL price for a new phone?

There are other options available for phone insurance. That's all I will say about that since the co. you mentioned is in partnership with vzw.

Enough already with the whining about refurb phones. You could have three phones sitting in front of you, two new and one refurb and not be able to tell the difference.

It's all in your mind. They are just as "good" as straight out of the box.

I think the people who get upset about getting refurbished phones for warranty/insurance are HILARIOUS.

What entitles you to get a replacement NEW phone for your USED phone that you broke/you lost/it was defective? I think people forget that their phones ARE NOT new anymore and, honestly, expecting to get a new phone to replace your used phone is ignorant at best and arrogant at worst.

my insurance is in the form of ebay or graigslist. if i break or lose my phone then i'll take the roughly $200 ($89 deductible plus whatever i would have spent on premiums) and find a decent droid online.

Asurion also acts as an extended warranty, when I blew the speaker on my Eris after the one year warranty period, I got a new (refurbished) replacement for free.  Good deal if you ask me.  Easier than actually trying to save that chunk of money just in case.

Extended warranty, a different way to look at it. Good point.
