Help!
I have used Chrome Remote Desktop (CRD) for years with Samsung S4, S4 mini, early J7 on Verizon
always with almost no problem connecting to several desktops.
I got a new J7 2018 ver this past week and CRD won connect.
It sees my remote computers, not grayed out, and asks for password correctly (I know the passwords).
When I send the password, my J7 screen just flashes slightly, and returns to the listing of available computers.
No connection, no error message, just the list with none grayed out
I have reinstalled CRD on Android J7 4-5 times - no change, and re-initiated remote on a couple of the desktops as a test and no change. I don't think its my carrier, Verizon, because I can turn on mobile hotspot and use a laptop thru the phone and it connects fine
Some details:
Phone: SM-J737V
Phone ver: J747V.04
Android: 8.0.0
Kernel 4.4.13
Non standard apps installed
Dropbox
Wall Mart
Amazon
Excel
I've looked for special permissions needed and CRD says 'none"
Anybody else seen this?

Are you experiencing any issues with other apps? Is your connection (data) working on the device? Do you have more than one device using the Chrome Remote Desktop?

It is the same series of issues , but i don't see it resolved and the
"trick" with enabling hotspot has not worked for me.
Thank you for the help, and pardon me for not stating originally that
the CRD problem is only on Verizon, not wifi - wifi CRD access is fine.
This has been occurring for about 1 month
Thanks

I have reached out to Google support.
They say that if it works with WiFi then the app is working correctly.
As I said the app works perfectly in wifi. Its only over the verizon
network that it won't connect.
Is there any possibility of a port restriction problem?
Please read this thread again - Verizon never solved it.

I'm part of a VZW wireless business account. I'm tech support for my
company. When I need to remote access my system after hours to work on
servers, Chrome Remote Desktop (CRD) won't connect over VZW's LTE
network; I have to connect over WiFi. Depending on where I am at the
time, I may not have WiFi available.
Is Verizon limiting what type of data is going across it's network
during peak times? I get about a 10% success rate using CRD over the
mobile network, and it seems to work somewhat better between 10am and
2pm daily.
If I use my personal phone (not on the VZW network) at the exact same
time, CRD will run fine.
It's not a phone issue. I have two different types of Android phone that
I've tried it on, and the one other tech uses an iPhone at work, and he
can't use his CRD either.
Any help figuring it out would be appreciated, as it's affecting how I
can do my job after-hours!
I have the same question

Thank you for following up with us on this. This is possibly a restriction with the app itself. Due to being for work, it might have security mesures through your employer. Have you tried contacting them about the issue to see if the informtion is accessable outside the workplace?

Thank you for the suggestion.
The app works thru WiFi on my personal Verizon phone for with wifi ON at
wifi locations at home, office, motel in El Paso Texas etc.
With Wifi off, the Chrome remote desktop will NOT WORK on Verizon
network at locations in Ruidoso, and Alalmogordo NM and on Verizon
towers in El paso Texas - the latter a very sold Verizon location for
all other purposes. I can sit a a lcoatioon about 1 mi from a verizon
tower in ELP and the app WILL NOT work on Verizon 4g, but then if i
switch to the WiFi at that location app works fine.
I believe you begin to see why i suspect some verizon incompatibility.
I see the app requires no special permissions. Since I have unlimited
data, i do not believe it is any other permission restriction on the
phone which would affect 4G but not WiFi, but am open to suggestions.
Thank you for your continuing help.

Thanks for asking.
As I mentioned initially, my Verizon android J7 (2018 Version) replaced
a J7 (2016 Version)I last in December, so i have not re-installed ALL
apps I previously used.
However, my reinstalled apps that use data such as:
Chrome - (browsing even to static IPS)
Google maps
Excel
Snap Chat
Parco polo
GPS
Skype
All of these work
I do use CRD on 3 different desktops 2 with Win10 and one with Win7 and
it works on those. I do not leave the App active on any of those
desktops when they're not in use.
As I think I mentioned the only difference i see on the Android phones
(CRD worked over Verizon on the 2016 model) is a possible Android
version difference.
BUT Chrome says it should have made no difference and i believe the
older J7 was updated, as I'm scrupulous about that.
I appreciate your suggestions

Update 12-6:
I hadn't noted this prior to our other conversation - I apologize:
When I start chrome remote desktop, after the first selection of a
computer to connect to, either 3G or 4G are turned OFF. The network
data indicator at top of screen goes grey. Then with any subsequent
attempted selection of a computer to connect to, 3G or 4G stays off
until CRD is closed. Chrome says this is not their issue. Is it
possible its in Android 8 security features? I can't find it if it is.
Thanks for you help

Have you attempted having some one else download the app on their device to see if it works? If you have not can yougo ahead and try that for us and let us know what happens?

Im having exactly the same problem on my s8+. Your verizon staff has obviously not read what this guy has typed... You just keep asking him questions he answered in the post you're currently responding to. Its known that you block some content and speeds over wifi tethering so its not an absurd question to ask if you're limiting access to something. To answer your last question, here is someone else with the same problem.

I wonder if the NAT firewall from the private IP addresses VZW uses to the phones and Jetpacks to access the internet as anything to do with the problem.
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

I downloaded the Chrome Remote Desktop app on a 2018 Samsung J7V almost
identical to mine in terms of configuration. The app does not work over
4G, just as mine. I does work over WiFi - also the same.
Thank you

It would seem they do, if you use a vpn then crd works fine. Turn the vpn off and it stops working. I use surf shark for this been doing it for over a year now. Verizon is without any doubt intentionally blocking the ports. Though it seems obvious that they want to blame everything else, instead of actually doing the research and testing on there device.

I have the exact same problem as described. I checked and I don't have any data saver options turned on. So that is not the issue for me. I use a Galaxy s9 plus phone. Every time I try to access GRD on my cell phone on a Cellular connection on Verizon, the 4G indicator goes grey and the app times out. I connect just fine when I'm connected to Wi-Fi. This app used to work on Cellular connections and no longer does. It's obviously some type of change Verizon made on their Network. Please research with Verizon technicians and resolve this issue.

I'm having the same issue and it is incredibly frustrating. This used to work and recently had stopped functioning on my S8.
Very frustrating.

We understand the need to have all apps work for you, brutusf. We are here to help.
Our 4G LTE cellular data is not the same type of connection like a home land based internet connect is. The main difference is that your data connection with us would not stay connected at all time. As information is needed, the connection will be established, once the information is delivered or uploaded, the connection is closed.
For certainly internet services and servers that need a constant connection, our cell 4G LTE cellular data service may cause the session to close or disconnect due to the data transfer not being constant.
