My gmail messages are not showing up on my phone for two plus hours and I am no longer getting a signal when I do get an audible signal when I get an  email.

Try clearing the data in gmail and reboot the phone. From there open gmail. You will have reset the settings of your notification preferences. In gmail, press menu> settings. After that double check your accounts & sync under the settings app.
