Hi there, I have a few questions/problems with my Droid Razr M since the KitKat update was pushed to my device a few days ago.
1. I was on vacation in Europe (Austria/Hungary/Croatia) when the update was delivered to my device. I think the download happened in Austria or Hungary. Now I appear to have a non-US version of the update on my phone. For example, Airplane Mode is called "Aeroplane Mode", and so on. Do I have the correct version of the update? I'd like the version applicable to US phones. Can I re-download it somehow, now that I'm back in the US, and correct this?
2. Bluetooth no longer pairs with my BMW X1. My phone does not even see the car in available devices.
3. WiFi does not work with Bluetooth enabled. My phone will recognize my home/work networks, but will only say "saved", and not connect. I am reading that this seems to be a known issue. I use Bluetooth for my Fitbit and my car (referenced above). I cannot just go to 5G because my work WiFi does not have a 5G option (my home network does have the 5G option). I also would like to be able to use WiFi in public places like I did before the update.
Please let me know how to address these three issues. Thanks!

This KitKat update on my Razr M is like a virus.
On a phone call (3g & 4g) it gets uncomfortably hot, and the phone restarted during a phone call yesterday. Including that one, it's the 4th random reboot in the last week. Sometimes it happens while the phone is in use, other times it's sitting idle & just restarts with no input or action from me.
Verizon is sending a replacement SIM card to see if that will fix the heat issue, but I have little confidence it will resolve anything. After that, I have no other choice than to do a reset on it, which from what I have read elsewhere has done nothing to resolve any of the reported OS issues.
Someone please tell me how this OS release could have possibly passed any QA testing Verizon did before deploying it?

I don't know why Verizon agreed to this.
I had to pay $35 out of pocket because my phone was not under warranty to get the software reloaded because in said "sure" to the upgrade. Not my fault, but took to 2 different Verizon stores and got the "well, you're eligible for an upgrade" line. They wouldn't fix it although it was not my fault. I went to an independent store.
My battery life is horrible and I have not reinstalled several apps.
The phone has gotten hot in my pocket.
The customer service on here is horrible.
I stayed with Verizon because of good customer service but I guess that's gone.
Sure the phone is a bit faster but hate all the other "features".
Kit Kat keyboard sucks.
Only one notifications color light shows now.
Why Verizon can't let us go back is beyond me.
I guess it is time to find a new carrier after 10 years.

Like I've been saying get the insurance and in 2 weeks have your phone "mysteriously break". They don't want to fix it, they don't want to help, make them! I am also checking out new carriers, had to beg to get unlimited text calls and 2 gb data (after being with Verizon for 7 years) for $60 at the same time they were offering unlimited everything for $60 for prepaid customers. I know several people who have the Straight Talk plan from walmart and have no problems with service (texts, calls, and web) so I am looking into that, I might not get the latest phone but you really cant beat $45 a month.

"for the life of me I can't figure out how to kill the update notifications on my replacement razr m that came with JB"
Get Titanium Backup and freeze the "Updater 4.1.2-77" app. No more notifications.

Is as if Verizon purposely made these dumb problems happen with the update to FORCE us to buy newer phones! And every time I ignored to do the update, the update reminder would pop back up again after like every hour or so, forcing me to do the update. And I kept hesitating it cause I didn't want problems... and man, I should have listened to my instincts!
1. Text Message Issues:
- This new black and white theme sucks.
- The Return key (aka Enter key) was removed from the keyboard. Like WTH! I use this key to organize stuff when I text people, depending on what I'm texting.
- Now I can't select multiple texts in a thread to delete. I have to delete one text in a thread at a time.
- No longer shows the time a text was sent or received on the previous days. Only shows on the current day.
(They should have just left the text message app alone. These are just dumb little tedious problems that I have to deal with on a daily basis NOW)
2. Battery power drain
4. The overall phone is slower now.
5. The vibration options sound like they have a sore throat now, and are short.
6. When I'm on a call, I have to always press "Return to Call in Progress" when I switch between windows. Annoying.
In general, this wasn't an update problem... but for the calls in Recent tab, It should state the actually day and date the call came in or out, and not show it as "2 days ago, 3 days ago, 4 days ago" cause now I have to waste seconds of my life to actually count in my head what day and date it was. Showing "x hours ago" (within 24 hours) and "Yesterday, time" is fine.

birthsuit - I agree with your assessment completely.
Yesterday, they sent me a new SIM card (which took me about 2 hours to have it activate on the network). Made no difference at all. One of my complaints was that it heated up pretty bad. The new SIM card would likely fix whatever authentication/network issue I was having that caused it. It even runs a couple degrees hotter than the old SIM card did. Two 15 minute calls in 3g & 4g range just took 20% off my battery.
Not only did this update do the things you mention, it also did away what apps like FoxFi did. And, you can't go back to a prior update.
You're right about the update forcing subscribers to buy newer phones. You aren't really given a choice to update or not. Nor do they tell you what DOESN'T work in it, never mind how you might have been using it before. It's sort of like being made to walk the plank. It sure has turned my phone (which I was relatively happy with) into a piece of junk.

I now have build KDA20.62-15 with a build date of July 29th.
So far, I see immediate improvement. I can now have both bluetooth and wireless on at the same time. Need to spend some time on it tomorrow before discovering if the battery problem is resolved.

Major improvement with the latest update. Battery held up better yesterday. Even forgot to plug it into the charger last night and still had about 20% charge left this morning.
I do have a new issue with SmartActions though. I have a profile setup for home that will turn on WiFi if on a charger and BT is connected to a particular device. It was unable to determine the BT connection for some reason. Once I remove the BT requirement, the action fired off. The BT was functional and usable so I am not sure what happened.

I'm so glad to hear that the update improved your battery, cbetts! Let's figure out your Smart Action concern. To begin, try powering your device off & back on, and then readding the bluetooth into the Smart Action. Keep us posted, and let me know if this takes care of it!
Thanks,

Just called Verizon. They are unaware of any issues with the Droid Razr M. I was told there are no known issues. The three Razr M phones that my family has which mysteriously started having issues immediately after updating to KitKat (overheating, low battery life) clearly must be casued by something other than KitKat.
I was told that the average battery life of a smart phone is 8 hours.
I was also told that you can't believe what you read in forums like this.
Implied Warranty: Fitness for Particular Purpose.
Where the seller at the time of contracting has reason to know any particular purpose for which the goods are required and that the buyeris relying on the seller's skill or judgment to select or furnish suitable goods, there is unless excluded or modified under the next section an implied warranty that the goods shall be fit for such purpose.
