Encryption unsuccessful - Reset Phone button won't work

I have a Motorola Droid 4.  When I attempt to boot the phone, I get the following message:

"Encryption unsuccessful - Encryption was interrupted and can't complete.  As a result, the data on your phone is no longer accessible.  To resume using your phone, you need to perform a factory reset.  When you set up your phone after the reset, you'll have an opportunity to restore any data that was backed up to your Google Account."

The only option there is a "Reset phone" button.  But when I attempt to select it, it lights up, as if it is acknowledging my touch, but nothing happens.  Does anyone know how I proceed?

This wipes your internal storage but may be necessary

That didn't work either.  I finally got to speak with Verizon and they're replacing the phone.

Thanks for the advice, hopefully it helps someone else that encounters a similar problem and searches the forums.

pjjoe,

Let's take care of this and get this reset completed. If unable to do it from that screen, please follow these steps http://vz.to/UBKSuC to complete the factory reset.

Same problem, same phone. Occurred on 11/3/14. The Data Reset button in the error message didn't work, so I did a Factory Data Reset through Boot Mode, and got no results. Same error message appears, and now I guess all my data is gone. Smiley Sad

Only to the point of your last backup, if data was deleted.

Hi Squirrelgirl,

That's not good! Were you in a particular application when this error originally appeared?  Has any unauthorized device software been loaded to the device? Has there been any liquid or physical damage to the device? Is this the  factory reset with the device powered off http://vz.to/1qvDk5O  that you performed already?

Thanks,

No, I didn't do anything to cause it (ie. Unauthorized software,

liquid,etc.). It was working fine when I set it down, and when I picked it

back up, it gave me a Google process error that I had never seen before, so

I attempted to reboot and got the data encryption failure message. I tried

to data wipe / factory reset it by going into the boot menu by holding down

both volume keys and the power button, and it said it factory reset it and

I wiped the cache partition, but to no avail. The phone is bricked and I

still only see the data encryption failed message.
