My gmail account stopped syncing on the wif-fi from the e-mail App on my Samsung Galaxy S6 for the past week. My tablet is still working fine and the Gmail account syncs fine on the S6 when wi-fi is off at my house. If I use the Google Gmail app, I can sync the e-mail on the wi-fi at my house. It seems to be a problem between the wi-fi at my house and the e-mail App on my Galaxy S6. Any suggestions?

Why are you using both the Gmail application and the Email application to sync the Gmail account? Isn't that redundant?

I want to use my e-mail App only with my Gmail account but since it is not
syncing on the wifi, I have to use the Gmail App as a back-up. What I find
strange is that the Gmail App syncs fine on the wifi but the e-mail App
will only synch at home if I turn off the wifi on my phone. That seems to
rule out a problem with the wifi altogether.

Then the server settings for that account is wrong in the Email application.

The server setting for my Gmail account in the e-mail App is imap.gmail.com
Should it be something different?

That's the server path. There is also the ports that are needed whether there is a SSL requirement. You might have to manually set the settings for the account instead allowing the application to automatically configure it.
FYI the Gmail account works better and has more options for syncing in the Gmail application.

Gmail POP Settings
Incoming Mail (POP3) server: | pop.gmail.com Use SSL: Yes Port: 995 |
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) server: | smtp.gmail.com Use Authentication: Yes Port (TLS/STARTTLS): 587 Port (SSL): 465 |
Account Name: | Your email address (e.g. username@gmail.com) |
Email Address: | Your email address (e.g. username@gmail.com) |
Password: | Your Gmail password |
Though, like Ann, I am puzzled why you don't use the Gmail app, that configures and syncs automatically.

I was able to go through the whole manual setup of the account with the pop
settings but I am still getting an error message saying that the server is
not responding. I wanted to use my e-mail App because it was working before
so I thought I'd fix it but it doesn't look like I am going to be able to...
