The J3 has a native file manager app called My Files:

Generally, you use the File Manager application. You can go to your apps drawer. It probably looks like a manilla file folder.
I prefer a download called ES File Explorer File Manager. The pro version costs 2.99 It's got this history mode which shows files created by time. You'd be surprised what files different apps create on your device.
You could also connect your phone to a computer with the USB cable and explore the file system that way.

I prefer a free file explorer app that doesn't have ads or tracks your usage. ES File Explorer used to be one I would recommend, but after they made changes to the app a few years ago I don't recommend them anymore.

Ann, the built-in File Manager is pretty bad, and you are right, the ad-based free version of ES File Explorer isn't as "free" as it used to be. It's still very feature rich - maybe overly so.
Do you have a free alternative you'd recommend to the OP?
It's a shame the standard Android one is so simplistic.

I'm using one made by Asus, but I'm not sure if it is available anymore.
