I have a virus notification on my phone, it wants me to download an app to get rid of it.  How do I know if it is legit or a scam?

I no longer see the virus notification. It was wanting me to download a

Rocket Clean app.

I have an HTC M9. It has been hot to the touch and runs through the

battery very fast. It has been unplugged for 5 hours with minimal use and

I only have 43% battery left
