I know this is a mundane question. Although I realize I have to have an operational Google account to use my Android smartphone to its fullest, I'm wondering about something...
My name is listed in my own Contacts, right at the top ("My Profile", above the letter A). Do I need to be there? Can I hide it, or can I delete myself without anything malfunctioning? Or does my own Contact absolutely need to be there?
Any insight is appreciated. Thanks!

Grundberg, we understand the importance of making sure you are able to store only the contacts you want on your device. Allow us to further investigate the details. Can you please provide us the make/model of your device? Also, can you please let us know why you are looking to remove the โMy Profileโ from your contact list?
