I have a new Verizon Galaxy J1. I want to use the standard Message app - not the Verizon Messages+ app. I want to set an individual message tone to some contacts. The manual says that in CONTACTS when adding or editing a contact to add an individual message tone for an individual contact to select Add Another Field and select Message Tone from the menu. The problem is the Add Another Field does not have Message Tone to select - and it also does not have the Vibration Pattern option also shown in the J1 Manual. I have Contacts set to the active Google Account on the phone and the Sync Contacts box checked on the Settings. This menu item to set an individual message tone for that contact SHOULD be there but it is NOT. What setting am I missing? The message app and the contacts app work fine in every other way but this. Please help!
And no, I do not want to use the Messages+ Verizon app and I do know that an individual message tone can be assigned to a "conversation" in that app.

My experience with Verizon Company stores have been less than satisfactory when it comes to this phone. We went to a company store to look at this phone and buy it. The salespeople looked at us as if we asked to see a flying saucer. I found the phone on my own in the store and asked some questions. The salesperson wanted to show me other phones. We walked out.
We went this past week to another company store to buy a glass screen protector for this phone. We were helped by an Assistant Manager. He went into the stock room and came out with a screen protector for another phone - much larger. He looked at the glass and my phone and said - we don't have it. I asked if he could check to see if any other company store had it. He went off - we saw him helping someone else. After a while he came back and said, "no other store has it.
We now have a phone that we cannot protect. We have been to multiple phone stores and asked for the screen protector and no one has it. We have since learned that there are three Samsung J1 models - 2015, 2016, and Verizon. All are different sizes. I do not understand that if Verizon currently sells a phone why their company stores do not sell Verizon model specific accessories for that phone! I never had this problem with TMobile - I went into their store, asked for a screen protector and case and they had them right there. Wow! The phone is great but Verizon's support for this phone is terrible!
I suggest hitting Samsung's site and doing a chat with them about the screen protector. Your right this is a great phone. A family member I have uses this device. I'd also ask Samsung to run down the text alert issue. Its possible something we left out of the software to allow this. I helped someone recently but it was VZ Messages+.

As bd94s10 stated, It'll be best to reach out to Samsung at 800-726-7864 with regards to the desired screen protector due to me not being able to locate the screen protector for your Samsung J1 in our inventory. I'd like for you to select "Contacts" > choose contact "Name" > select "Edit" (or pencil icon if presented) > scroll down (if needed) and select "More". Once you've selected "More" scroll to bottom of screen and advise us of what options do you see with regards to ringtones.
