I've tried all troubleshooting, constantly restarted device, closed all apps, went in and out of airplane mode, etc etc etc. Is this a common problem? Fixable?

Did you delete cache, data, force stop, restart?
Back up messages to your cloud if there are any you want to keep.

I just did all of the above. Just sent two texts that took about five seconds to send.. better than it was. I'll see how this works over the coming hours/days. Thanks!

No problem. If it happens again, I'd suggest doing all of that again, and then when you power down to restart, also remove your sim card for a minute and put it back in. While cycling airplane mode often works, I know it doesn't work as well on occasion. On the G2 the sim card is on the left hand side of the phone, might be on the G3 as well.

Here's my take... I have G2 and dealing with sporadic texts not sending.
IF I do a group text, it gets sent out immediately. If I do an individual text, it does not. Even if the individual text was written first and then a group text, there is NOT a delay with group text... the group text gets sent out but the individual text does not. It could take hours to an entire day sometimes to send out texts. I've done the normal stuff, task manager to close all apps, shut off and then start up an hour later, cleaned apps, turned on airplane mode and then back on, etc. I've driven across town and back and still the text was stuck "sending".
What I did find is a lead on "messaging center" for people who are having issues with individual texts. The info I found was for another carrier, so I'm not using their instructions because they would have a different messaging center number. I would love to hear more from other people - if they know how to update my Verizon "messaging center" since I don't have that option on my G2.
For now, here's the workaround... create a text to someone and then include yourself. It will go out.

Follow up: I got hung up again today with a text in Messaging app. So I tried Hangouts. NO hangup on individual SMS text in Hangouts. So I went back into Messaging app and the Messaging text is still "sending"... but the Hangouts text is received in the Messaging app. Two (2) hours later, the text is still stuck "sending" in Messaging app. Changed the default SMS app to Hangouts. Problem solved.

Do you have 1000s of texts in your app? If so, it's possible you could be overloading the app.
I set my app to prune at 250 texts. Some people like to keep their texts forever, but I don't see the point. If you want to keep a large number of texts, back them up and delete the oldest ones.

RushFan2112, these are awesome question to ask for troubleshooting for this issue with delayed text messages. You are definitely being led in the right direction for a resolution. I have a few questions regarding this dilemma. Are these text or picture messages? Are you using Wi-Fi or mobile data? How much memory is left on the device? To check go to Apps icon>settings>storage
Please keep us posted.
