Recently I realized I am not hearing my notification sounds. The icons are popping up but no sound. I realized it's because when I turn my ringtone volume off the notification volume goes off also so they are not 2 separate volumes any more and I thought they used be? Can someone clarify this for me please. Mary
Solved! Go to Correct Answer
Unless the manufacturer changes the code and separates them again, the ringtone volume for calls and the volume for notifications tones were merged in either Android ICS or KitKat versions of the OS. The G4 should be running either Lollipop or Marshmallow.

Ok I have had marshmallow for a while now. I could have sworn up until last week they were 2 separate things as I have my ringtone off a lot. I will chalk it up to old age and remembering wrong. Mary
They are still separate. And each can be increased decreased independent of the others.

Ok so I am not going crazy, thanks. I remember when they changed it but I was sure they changed it back and I thought it worked that way up until last week for me. The first poster must be having the same problem as me then If theirs doesn't work. When I turn the ringtone off the 2 under it also mute and you can't unmute them while the ringtone is off. With the ringtone on then the 2 under it can be adjusted separately. The last one works independent and is not affected. I will go see if anyone at android central is having the same problem and has a solution. Only thing I tried was a reboot. Mary

Your phone is working correctly.
I could have sworn I had my ringtone off for the last 2 weeks but notification sounds were on and came through. That is what I want to do. Mary
The option to reduce volume of ringtone via silent/vibrate/loud is there, just don't use vibrate or silent and adjust ringtone to nill and notifications to loud. Nothing has changed.
I got it now. Stupid me I was using do not disturb and must have forgotten that's what I need to do. With that on my notifications just sounded for a game but when I got a call there was no ringtone sound which is exactly the way I want it. If I go into settings and turn my volume all the way down I cannot adjust notifications. It goes down at the same time I turn the ring tone all the way down and then won't budge, same with touch feedback system. Am I doing something wrong trying to do it that way? Do not disturb works the way I want. My notifications for my game will sound but my ringtone won't. Mary
You're doing it right.
