LG G7 Thinq Android 10

When will my LG G7 ThinQ get Android 10? When I purchased the phone there was a very big advertising push with it that it would get the next two Android OS updates guaranteed! Well, it got 9, it's well past time for Android 10.

Hello, Gondorjedi. We are sorry to hear that your LG G7 ThinQ has not received the Android 10 update. It should have been available as of September of last year. Click here for details: https://www.verizon.com/support/lg-g7-thinq-update/. What happens when you check for updates on your phone?   CassieG_VZW

Hello CassieG,

The September update which you linked me to has nothing to do with Android 10. It is the August Security patch. When I check for updates on my phone, it says I have the latest updates installed, which is Android 9 with the August 1st Security patch.

Judging by other conversations in this forum previously, no Verizon customers have received the Android 10 update. Does Verizon seriously think the September OTA included Android 10? If so, you are mistaken.

Gondorjedi, we understand your concern when it comes to the update for your phone. Once an update is available, it will be provided to your device if compatible. Some updates can take longer than from when it is available based on the developer. So we can discuss this further, please send us a Private Note. JoseL_VZW

I guess I am a sucker for punishment, how do I send you a private message on this topic?

Moreover, why should I? Are you going to impart on me secret knowledge that your general customer base isn't allowed to know about when Verizon will honor its word and deliver the promised update?

I don't see why you would be unwilling to honestly post your information in the open. Seems sleazy.

If I am reading right and this is true this says it was rolled out.

Indeed, the T Mobile LG G7 got the Android 10 update nearly a year ago, along with the Verizon LG V50, as the article says.

Hello CassieG,

Your reply was the most interesting and potentially helpful. When you asserted that the September update had Android 10, I imagine that you had a reason for doing so (such as perhaps an internal memo or notes or something like that). After all just picking random updates to point to and say "this was Android 10"would be stupid.

If you have release notes or something like that indicating that Android 10 should have come out in September, that could mean that it was intended to be in that release and someone muffed the update.

Why did you believe the September update was Android 10?

I apologize for our misinformation as our internal records were showing the updates up until the 10th available device software patch but when viewing the latest updates at http://spr.ly/6609Hxnm5 the current version is SU15 for the G 7 Thinq as of 9/2020 but still running Android 9.0. I apologize as we do not have details on the availability of a future upgrade but we wil luse your feedback to continue improving the support and devices.

Is this still the Verizon official response? That no promised OS updates will be delivered for the phone, even well over a year after other providers rolled out Android 10 for it? It appears the problem somehow still isn't fixed on Verizon's end, despite the phone clearly being made less obsolete by other carriers, which feels a lot like planned obsolescence by a mobile carrier to me. What's your timeline for solving this?

It is absolutely planned obsolescence. Ultimately chose to trade in my G7 for a $500 credit toward a Samsung S21. Samsung is promising updates for their phones for four years, we'll see what happens.

If any of Verizon's competitors had even usable signal, I would have left. Verizon has no interest in serving customers who have been using the hetwork for years. It's completely about forcing people into insanely expensive new phones that are actually not even as good (technically speaking) as the old ones.

Right, and that's unacceptable when other carriers have rolled out Android 10 for their customers for the exact same device. Here I am in November of 2021 and am still on Android 9.

Any updates here or is Verizon giving us maybe 1000$ credit toward a new phone? I was told long ago by Verizon when I got the phone we would be getting android 10, been well over a year every other carrier has it for LG g7 thinq except for us. Been with vzw for like fifteen years but I'm thinking it's time to change, this is absolutely insane they can't push out a already completed OS to their loyal customers.

Is anybody going to answer the man's question?  When will it be available?   Either that or time to ship me a new S22.   A lot of money was spent on this one with no return on investment.....

LG is no longer in the phone business so probably never going to happen.
