Why is Verizon the only carrier that is not offering the Nexus 5 from Google?

Because GOOGLE decided not to include the complete radios to work on the Verizon Wireless network.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Found this on the Verge looks like it was Verizons choice.

According to The Verge, Google's Sundar Pichai, vice president of Android and Chrome, confirmed that "the Nexus 5 will not be on Verizon." As The Verge points out, this is the second major Google device that appears to have been snubbed by Verizon; the carrier initially refused to support Google's recently announced Nexus 7 tablet, though Verizon subsequently promised to reverse that position at some point in the future.

Verizon's apparent rebuke of Google's recent devices is notable considering Verizon partnered closely with Google for the 2009 launch of Verizon's Droid line of phones, supplied primarily by Motorola. Verizon's Droid marketing push aimed to topple the growing popularity of Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone, then exclusive to AT&T, and dramatically expanded Android's profile in the United States.

However, according to The Verge, Google and Verizon may be looking toward a renewed partnership in 2014. Pichai told the publication Google is "working with [Verizon] on a set of projects for 2014." He didn't elaborate.

How long will those "new products" take?  I feel like Verizon just doesn't like playing by Google's rules.  If Verizon supports an unlocked phone that works on Verizon then essentially Verizon cant renew your contract they just have to keep your account open on an unlocked phone and you can leave with that phone at any point.

Why would Google pay for a radio Verizon doesn't want or won't use? The Nexus 5 works almost everywhere on the planet except for VZW... So it's Google's fault?? Umm... NO

Yeah, the Nexus 5 supports the proper frequency bands.  It's Verizon limiting it.  It's sort of like limiting bootloaders, and Google Wallet.  Verizon likes to hold onto their Ma' Bell roots and try to control everything.  Unfortunately for them, they aren't Steve Jobs and we're not talking about the iPhone.

Verizon needs to ball-up and play with others.  They're starting to lose customers because of their unwillingness to cooperate with outside devices and power-users who actually like to customize their devices.

Actually people need to ball up themselves and talk with their money instead of complaining about it. In a free market money talks... People need to actually start talking...

I think Google learned it's lesson with VZW after the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

today verizon released a statement tI'm, there was an issue with the Nexus 7 and that they will wait till it is updated 4.4 kitkat before they approve it. Imo, Verizon just released their own new tablet on their network and probably wanted it to sell first and have availability before the N7 is approved.

Verizon's tablet makes a great drink coaster. Beyond that it's useless.

We have been longtime Verizon customers and where I live I really don't have much choice in companies. My husband needs a new phone and we don't want to sign a new contract so we need to buy a phone off contract but he is rough on phones and I really don't want to drop 6 or 7 hundred dollars on one. So I was thinking maybe the nexus 5 was maybe a good choice for him but as I start looking into it I found that Verizon didn't want to carry the phone. Seriously getting tired of the games verizion plays, thinking maybe I might start thinking about prepaid phones

Have you looked at the Moto X instead?
