I recently had a Verizon store swap SIM cards between my S6 Edge Plus and the new Moto G4 I picked up from Amazon. I was told that the SIM cards were compatible and that it wouldn't be an issue. The problem is that I can't seem to connect to the LTE network. The most I get is 3G anywhere, including the places that I had full LTE bars with my S6. Is there some method of activating LTE that the clerk neglected to mention to me? Is there any way to test whether or not LTE is even achievable? The store page at Amazon states it's capable of 4G, but I've been let down by promises like that before.

Problem is solved by upgrading Moto G4 to Android 7. Now no issues with LTE. Others have confirmed this works.

The APN might also need to be adjusted, but hopefully not.
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

I've tried this, but all I have is 3G. Thank you for your help, though. I appreciate it.

I have the same problem, got a new SIM today and still only get 3G. Found this site that live checks what bands the device is compatible with and it's shows 5/5 for LTE. I just did it, from my G4, before posting. Motorola Moto G4 TD-LTE 16GB XT1625 Compatibility on Verizon Wireless (United States) Mobile Network . I also noticed that my IMEI number and model number are showing incorrectly on Verizon's website. The model number it shows is actually the G4 plus model number and the IMEI number is off by a digit other two. I plan on calling customer support tomorrow.

I went into Verizon store and got a new sim for my new Moto G4. I was able to get the phone working but can not get LTE, only get 3G. I have been on the phone 3 times with Verizon support and have tried everything they suggested including putting the SIM card from my Samsung S4 (which gets 4G LTE fine) into the Moto G4. I can only get 3G on my Moto G4. It shows 3G on display and running Speedtest.net app, I only get 1.6 to 2.6 MBPS. In the same location, the Samsung S4 gets 28 to 32 MBPS. I am going to try the Motorola tech support to see if they have a solution, otherwise, I will have to return the Moto G4 to Amazon. It's really too bad as this seems like a great phone for the money.

Quick update. Phone works just fine on AT&T, getting 4G LTE signal everywhere I go. I'm thinking of cancelling Verizon service since I'm not under contract and the customer service in their stores is terrible.

It looks like I'm out of luck. Went to the Verizon Store to get a new SIM card, no change. Called up tech support and spent the better part of the day talking with customer service reps and tech specialists who asked me to do all sorts of things to my phone. No dice.
-and since I'm still under a the last year of a 2-year contract, I have to shut up and take it on the chin because none of the reps can help me. I may have to drop Verizon altogether after this. I've never felt so misled as a consumer.

I went back to Amazon and at least one person said he is using the phone on Verizon with LTE.
If no one has suggested it, the APN settings need to be set and SIM provisioned. If you bought the US version, it has CDMA bands and should work fine.

It doesn't work fine. Got my phone on Tuesday, inserted the nano sim from my Droid mini, no luck on LTE. Got a new micro sim from Verizon yesterday, no luck on LTE. I'm not sure who is to blame, but from what I read in other forums it works on other carriers' LTE just dandy, but no dice with Verizon. Using a signal app I got from the play store you can see it try and connect to LTE, then about 10 seconds later it kicks back to 3G and stays there.

kurt.stephens you have to program APN settings. The phone won't work out of the box.
Call tech support for the settings.

Program what APN settings? There's only one choice when you put a Verizon sim in....vzwinternet and the radio button show it as selected. I've been on the line with support for probably 5 hours total now on 3 separate occasions, support is a joke. You can do your own support using your device emulator, that's all they do when you call them. They don't actually know anything unless it shows on their computer screen.

And actually it does work right out of the box, you just can't get 4G data...Verizon and Motorola have a problem with it connecting to 4G.

You will have to pester Verizon to get the phone whitelisted, specifically its Imei.
This happened with previous unlocked phones as well, Moto Pure edition, Nexus 5x and 6p

Funny, my Verizon branded Moto G4 Play just started having the same issues today! It has worked fine for a month on 4G LTE and now it is not showing 4G anymore! Just grayed out. Don't understand what is wrong. I have not changed any settings or opened the back of the phone. Frustrating.
