I installed Samsung Pay yesterday and added my Amex card. As I suspected, since it is a chipped card it does not work at terminals which are chip enabled and I still have to insert the card. It worked fine at terminals which are not chip enabled. This cuts down on the terminals which will accept it, yet the STILL outnumber the terminals with NFC.

Seems more banks are getting on the NFC payments bandwagon. Capital One now allows NFC payment through their app. However, most of their customers are receiving chip cards now.

Difference is, though, NFC is accepted with a chipped card and a chip enabled terminal with NFC. Samsung Pay is not. Not all chip enabled terminals have NFC, though. Seems silly that a chip enabled terminal does not accept NFC since they are new terminals, although I have seen them.

The latest update prepares the phone for Samsung pay. Here is the info from the release notes. Looks like it is coming via the play store.

There is something fishy going on here (I'm sure we all already know that).
Verizon pushes an update to allow the use of Samsung Pay, but only includes half (framwork only) of what we need to use the app. They include a note in the update saying to get the other half, go to the Google Play store when it is available. I contacted Samsung Mobile and they flat out told me it will NOT be available in the Play store. The guy even sounded shocked that I would even think that lol - like I offended him or something.
When I contacted verizon about it, the lady I was chatting with took every opportunity to dismiss it altogether and change the subject. There is obviously a huge miscommunication between Verizon, Samsung and the consumers.
Sure, we can just change one thing in the security settings and download the APKs, but we should not have to do that...

That's where all the Pay update comes from.

That was the first place I checked. It would make more sense for it to be
there instead of the Play store.

I think I've decided that Samsung Pay is just a big sham by Samsung. Even after installing it on my VZW N5, it doesn't work, because Samsung does not have the banking support they should or portrayed they would have. I thought having Visa as a sponsor meant that Visa cards would work- but that's not the case. It just means that Visa cards issues by the supported banks will work. The banks supported needs to be larger, in fact, it needs to not matter what banks support Samsung Pay. I'm not sure if Android Pay is bank specific or not, but Samsung Pay is.
All this hoopla about VZW holding back - Samsung Pay barely supports enough banks to make it a viable option. Was a great idea, but its a shame that the banking support is so minimal.

Samsung Pay loaded all of the files today starting around 12:00. They did say that it was going live today for Verizon and now you should be able to get everything without side loading or tricks. I was able to load my BOA and Citi debit and credit cards with no issues. All that's left is to use it later today.
Verizon, please be ready in the future when new items and apps come available for all devices. This incident with Samsung Pay should have been handled more professionally and with better tact. We, as consumers, did not ask for the impossible, just for the company that we use to be more proactive and expedient.
Now, on a different note, thanks for finally supporting and releasing the app so that we could make our own decisions on what works best for us between Android Pay and Samsung Pay. There may be situations where one is more justified to use than the other but now we at least have that option.
If anyone has trouble finding the app, just login to your Google Play account on your computer and install it from there. It will appear on your phone a few seconds afterwards. Then launch the app and it should gather the necessary files from Samsung and Verizon to work. Enjoy everyone! It has been great to discuss and support each other for the benefit of Galaxy device users.

Unfortunately there are still groups of Verizon customers that have received the update from Verizon and still cannot download the update from the Play store. I am one of them. I have spoken to Samsung support the past 2 days and they said to give it 24 more hours. Any others still with this issue?

hmmm...I have it installed but when I go to add a supported card (tried AMEX and Citi Card) it says it can't connect to the server and to try again later.
Maybe it isn't completely operational and active yet on Verizon.
