The incoming and outgoing server settings may need to be modified.

I tried entering the account manually with the settings Verizon and ATT recommend and get the same message.
I have other email accounts using this app (factory installed email app) and they are working fine.
Interestingly enough, earlier this week I got an offee to upgrade my phone;)

Curious if the results would be the same if you forced the Email access attempts over WiFi as opposed to OTA.

Are you trying to setup the account as Yahoo! account on the phone? Try if you haven't; Yahoo generally handles the email servers for Bellsouth.net email now. You're able to log into the email on the Yahoo website, correct? I still use my Yahoo account, but I just use the Yahoo app rather than the stock phone app, because Yahoo's email security settings seem to have trouble with the stock mail apps a lot. You can try that, or if you're set on using the stock mail app, you can try changing the Yahoo account security settings; that sometimes lets stock mail apps connect. You can do that by logging into Yahoo, clicking your profile image on the top-right, then selecting Account info. From there, click "Account Security," and then turn on the switch for "Allow apps that use less secure sign in." Then try to add the account on your phone again, and see if you have any better luck.

Fourcannons,
We always want for you to be able to access your email with ease. I'm sorry that you are having such a rough time. Let's work towards a resolution. What make & model phone do you use? Is there by chance a bellsouth email app that you can download? Community member Elements has brought up a good suggestion. What happens when you try a yahoo app or settings?

I'll try the Yahoo app, but I'm OCD and would like to know why an app and settings I've used over three years quit working when I did not initiate any changes.

The email provider changed their servers and how the email is handled.
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Verizon (Ma Bell) did something similar.
Verizon migrated existing Email addresses over to AOL. So, anyone who has an "@verizon.net" Email account, and, indicated that they wanted to keep it, now needs to go to AOL and enter the full Email address...including the @verizon.net... in the appropriate data field.
