So Verizon seems to think that it's the SIM card, but I can tell you that doesn't appear to be the case for me.  They put a new SIM card in and it seemed to work ok for a while, but they also disappeared with my phone while I was in the store (the guy in the store was a jackass), so I'm not really sure what they did to it.  It worked ok for a month and then bam started having the same problem over again.

So this time, same thing "lets get you a new SIM card".  Well, while they worked that through their bureaucracy, I did some digging around.  I ended up installing an app called "App Cache Cleaner" on my phone.  That was 3 weeks ago and I haven't had a single instance of the missing SIM card message since then.  I'd give it a try if I was you.
