I just updated my Samsung S5 to Lollipop 5.0 two days ago. Now the heart rate monitor light comes on anytime the screen is on and something is near it or it is sitting face up on the desk. The WiFi also is constantly scanning and changing networks. The phone also went into cool down mode today and the battery is draining from a complete charge in 6 hours with little use. I reached out to Samsung and they were no help. I have read posts online from many users having these same issues. Any other users having the same issues? Any suggestions on a fix? I have restarted several times and cleared all applications cache with no luck. I hate to have to do a factory reset but that is looking like my next step or possibly downgrading (more like an upgrade) back to KitKat 4.4.
Thanks,
Mark

Before doing the FDR do a system cache clear and give it a few day for the OS to adjust. You may still have some ongoing issues with some apps after doing the above, you must give it time. Also uninstall any apps you can do without, keep it to a bare phone OS as much as possible. You can reinstall apps later as they update them to the 5.0 specs.
System cache clear direction:
Power down the phone then
Hold volume up/down and
power simultaneously until you see the Boot Mode Selection Menu
Use volume down to navigate
to Recovery, use volume up to select
You will a see screen with exclamation point next to an Android
Press volume up/down do this
simultaneously to go into system recovery
Use the volume rocker to navigate
to 'wipe cache' and the power button to select. When your finished, use volume
rocker to navigate to 'reboot system now' and the power button for select.

Well, Verizon's Certified Like-New phone is on it's way back to me.
Apparently Samsung repair had to replace quite a few parts and components
and LCD.
Apparently, It was not as Like-New as I was told.

like new isn't new...
You'll get the same results still with any other carrier. Refurbs or like new whatever anyone wants to call them are always the same.

I originally installed part one of the two part update in early February. While it was downloading I came across this thread and never ended up installing lollipop, was 100% happy with kitkat 4.4.4. It was always easy to say "no thanks" when my phone asked me to update to lollpop and this only happened about once a week or less. Well, I was finally "auto updated" (BOC4) a couple of days ago expecting all sorts of problems with the phone. Much to my surprise, the phone works very well, battery life is about the same as before (excellent), never gets hot and no wifi problems at all. The only "bug" that bothered me was the auto brightness function, worked beautifully with kitkat but not so well with lollipop. The display was far too dim in low light conditions so I turned it off and set it to a brightness level that seems to works well under all light conditions (about 60%). Maybe I just got lucky or maybe a clean install of only the newer version did the trick, but overall I'm very happy with lollipop and I really like some of its new features.

I went through this mess a couple months ago where the update made my phone completely useless, even the factory reset wouldn't fix it. With the help of the Verizon rep at the mall, I ended up getting a warranty replacement phone sent to me. My phone is working just fine with Android version 4.4.4 and by the recent comments being posted, there are still issues with version 5.0 Lolipop on the Galaxy S5. Now my phone is bugging me constantly about installing the new update (5.0), but I don't want to do it. How do I get my phone to stop trying to get me to install the update?

The update is designed to auto install if at any point you hit the install
later button.
The only thing you seem to be able to do to keep it from installing is to
fill up your phones memory since the lollipop update is pretty massive.
I wish I had been smart enough to know in the beginning not to install this
latest p.o.s. update.

I can understand how frustrating it can get when you keep getting the software notification mikjohns. I regret to inform there is not a way to stop the notification all together. However, you may select update later. This will provide you with a clock pop up. If you select a time like 1 or 2 am, you will no longer receive the updates for the remaining of the day. However, if you do not wish to download the software, make sure you do not select install automatically. That way you will only receive the notification once every morning and not all day.

Truly unbelievable. To release this update is reprehensible and insulting to Verizon customers. I have tried every fix suggested and to no avail. Essentially my S4 is now a piece of junk. I will be canceling my contract with Verizon and change carrier.

Make sure you don't buy Samsung. I heard all these problems are happening around the world, and the only company that can fix it is Samsung.

I also heard on the interwebs that there was a unicorn sighting in Indiana over the weekend J
They can roll it back. If a kid on craigslist can do it remotely for $30, certainly Verizon can do it. I don’t want to spend $30 and void my warranty because I trust a kid on Craigslist more than Verizon at this point.

That kid charging you $30 uses a program and voids all if any warranty and that kid doesn't disclose it. Also if he bricks your phone you'll probably have fun and spend more money to even get anything back from him.
Verizon will not roll back anything and are in agreement with Samsung to not do so as well. This is a Samsung policy around the world. Samsung set it up where you can't roll back and keep warranty.

I also want to add it's up to SAMSUNG to fix. Verizon has no source code and doesn't modify the code. This has been proven countless times. People in the US like to blame carriers because it's an easier point of contact. Europe blame the manufacturer and they seem to get far better support than we do. Manufacturers LOVE you.

I would like to think (hope) that the armies of lawyers have included clauses about marketability, breach of contract and exclusions for issues that can materially affect Verizon’s business in their agreements.
As an aside, Google recently updated their Maps. It works well but instead of saying minutes remaining; the voice s/w mispronounces it and says minute(s) (as in small). Comical but it speaks volumes to the amount of testing and review that doesn’t go into these updates.

Lawyers and judges already concluded in our courts since the G1 and going forward no carrier has ever lost because they do not specifically touch the code. Manufacturers sell a set of options that carriers pick from. From that point forward all the work is done by the manufacturer. All these 5.0.X problems are documented by Google and it's in the base code. 5.1.X fixed a lot of those issues. The manufacturers have been under a lot of pressure to deliver updates on a "timely" manner they pushed out 5.0.X as quickly as possible to appease a lot of their user base. People are going to switch carrier by the same brand 99% of the time and get the same thing. You'll find it on other carriers.
