I recently upgraded my phone, and with that I began using the Security and Privacy app. It has been interjecting to secure unprotected networks, and I have appreciated that.
However, I recently encountered a problem that I cannot solve.
At my parents' house, every time I connect to their WiFi, Security and Privacy pops up and tells me, "This network has been compromised." How can I figure out the reason for this message?
I logged in to the router's web interface, to confirm that network encryption was enabled (it was, WPA2), and I saw that there was a firmware update available, which included several security patches, and I thought that that must be the source of the problem. But I upgraded the firmware and still the message keeps being shown.
Then I tried to change the router's admin UI login/password (it had previously been the default), but that did not stop the message either.
I also then confirmed that remote management is disabled, that there are no ports being forwarded, and that there were no unexpected devices on the network.
I have also thought of confirming that there is no DMZ server configured, and that WPS is disabled, but I have yet to check those things.
Again, how can I determine why the app is telling me that a particular network has been compromised?

This is the screen I got. I am not interested in purchasing 'Safe WiFi'. My WiFi network is well secured, thank you very much. WPA2, WPS pushbutton (not PIN). I use WPS pushbutton because I am using a very long, high entropy password that nobody could remember. The WPS pushbutton requires physical access to my router. This is very secure. I keep my router patched, and I regularly run security scans on it.
So I think scary pop-ups, saying 'This network has been compromised' is more like a third world security scam, than a legitimate marketing ploy. For shame. Oh, and I run OpenVPN on my phone, so I can connect to open WiFi without anyone eavesdropping. VPN is always on, even over the VZ network, so yeah. Compromised... riiiight.

The mere fact that no one, not even Verizon, has any clue at all about this app or its behavior, speaks volumes. As most have said... Typical Verizon. They're only experts in selling... They're complete failures at customer service.
There should be a number to call for answeres.... You shouldnt have to join a forum and spend an entire day searching... You didn't have to go far when you wanted to buy a phone... but now that you own it, you're on your own.
Verizon is horrible at customer care.

Armyadarkness, your time is valuable and should not be spent searching for answers. Your security is key as phones hold so much information these days. The good news is, you may manage these security settings online. Simply sign in to the Security and Privacy dashboard at https://login.verizonwireless.com/amserver/UI/Login?goto=https%3A%2F%2Fdevicesecurityandprivacyservi... there select the Products & Apps, Manage your products and scroll down to the Manage security & Privacy.

This is not the correct answer, I have not been able to get this annoying pop-up to stop popping up every few seconds. It started today. I need to get this to stop. Please provide a clear solution, thank you.

What are the triggers for this app to determine that a network has been compromised or is unsafe?
So far Verizon's responses have been pretty weak. Contact the ISP? Why... it's my router. My wifi network. Is the app saying my ISP's network is unsafe?
Disable the app notifications. Really... hey customers we don't know how our apps work or why they do what they do so you should ignore them.

Today early morning I received this notification from the "Security & Privacy App"[S&PApp], I couldn't figure out right away the meaning of the message due to lack of context. After 20 minutes of troubleshooting, I found that "S&PApp" auto update is the only change on my mobile phone.
What didn't change:
1) my home wifi password - 4 months old
2) my router config - 8 months old
3) my cell phone (& S&PApp) - 9 months old
4) my ISP - 2 years old
What changed:
1) today at 5:10 AM: Auto update of virus definitions in S&PApp.
What I suggest as improvements in S&PApp:
1) Error Message needs to state the network name, so that average user is aware of the context for the message
- [Example] The security of the "WIFI NETWORK NAME" network has compromised
2) Enable "Manage Wi-Fi Network" capability to "Basic Users", to enable customers to save their preferred wi-fi networks in the S&PApp
- I could not save my home Wi-FI network by following instructions in your community guide.

My phone updated last night and now all day long, constantly, this message is popping up no matter what I do. I check the box to always allow and trust now and immediately the box pops right back up. Is this a way of forcing me to use my data??

A constant pop up message can be annoying, I hear you on that, Cyndib917. Just to confirm "This Network has been Compromised" is the message you are referring to, correct? I can reassure you that this is in no way shape or form a way to force you to use data. Have you attempted to disable the app to see if the pop up continues? What is the make/model of your device? Did your phone do a software update, or did the app update? JoeyM_VZW

Add me to the list too. Updated yesterday and for the past hour I've gotten that pop up about 100 times. Literally every few seconds, and no matter how many times you say trust the network it still pops up. Horrible inconvenience. Needs to be fixed immediately! Can't afford to use network data so this needs to be handled. Get on it Verizon!

Same problem here. It just started tonight when I got home and my phone connected to the secure home wifi. After reading prior replies, I went into my phone settings and chose "Force Stop" for the S&P app and the message hasn't come back yet. Verizon needs to fix this.

Just did the same and noticed I had two S&P apps installed on my phone with 9ne having the permission to make system changes. Switched it off, force stopped, and turned off notifications.

Same thing started when I got home from work. I did the Force Stop of the S&P app and so far I haven't seen the pop up message. Thanks for the tip!

Same here. I have a Galaxy s8plus. I started getting this evening of 09/05. Didn't matter how many times I clicked "Trust for now" it just kept popping up. I've been in the IT department for a fortune 500 company for 40 years. I was the Network supervisor for a few years. I know how to set up my home network and how to trouble shoot. There is no problem with my home network. There is obviously something wrong with the Verizon security app. I see this all the time with software vendors. They update there app and don't thoroughly QA the update. The new code 'breaks' something else in the code and the vendor doesn't admit it's there bad code until a number of customers complain and start threatening to drop their software; hardware; etc. This should be a severety 1 issue for Verizon support as the bug is consistantly affecting many users. I've been involved working with support departments with different vendors. There are levels in the support area users have to traverse to get resolutions. This one should be kicked up to Verizon Security& Privacy app developers immeditately to provide a resolution. Verizon 1st level support obviously has no clue what the bug is or how to resolve it.
