Trying to use my Galaxy S5 as a mobile hotspot. When I type the password on my laptop or Kindle, it says incorrect password. It works fine when tethered.

You should be able to change the password to something you can remember and recognize.  Go to settings ... more ...mobile hotspot ... then hotspot settings. You probably need to turn the hotspot ON to access the settings, and then you can configure the password and device name to your liking.
