Why won't my backup assistant app work with LG VS500?

I downloaded and installed the Verizon app called "Backup+ Contacts." It apparently installed just fine. But when I try to "agree to terms and conditions," it tells me "Application Error. Backup Assistant Plus has lost network connection. Please retry your operation."
Multiple attempts to retry my operation only get me the same results.
Is there a problem with the LG VS 500 android phones, or is the problem at VZW? Or must I be on wi-fi for this to work?
This app worked great on my old iPhone 4.

Can you install the Verizon Cloud application?

Backup Assistant has been replaced by Verizon Cloud, so the app may have been retired. Have you tried using the Verizon Cloud app?
