duplicate contacts

Everytime I go to send a message the conatact pops up duplicate and shows every single number that is saved to that contact twice.  how do I fix this?

Me too.  I am baffled.  and its a pain in the butt.

Try going to the contacts/people app on your phone and selecting the duplicate contact in question. If you edit the contact, there should be an option to "Merge or Link" to another contact. For example you have a contact, John Doe, that you want to merge with another John Doe. This will put them under one name and overwrite any duplication of  information or add fields that weren't in the other.
