A factory reset can help with issues on a phone that started after a system update. The reset removes any leftover code from the old version of the OS that is causing conflict with the new version. It will also clear an temporary files that were not deleted after the update. While they are a pain, you should be willing to complete that factory reset step before replacing the phone. There is no guarantee that the replacement phone may or may not have the update too. Eventually the update will install itself on a replacement phone if it didn't come with the update already installed.

We want your device to be fully functional. What have you tried so far? Have you tried using a 3rd party message application?

yes i have been forced into using a different messaging app, but not happy about it . when will companies learn to respect the end user ,and stop with this "we know better than you" mentality? i was very happy with my phone and did not need a sudden major change in the way it functions. who thought of such a ridiculous notion to force a send audio for text button , with no way to disable it . a function that sends the message when you touch it and let go . so any accidental touching records and sends an audio text. at the very least ,updates like these should have an option to disable them . It's made my user experience extremely annoying for 5 days now . i liked message plus . i dont like the 3rd party message app im currently using . 98% of my phone use is text messaging . this has been such a annoyance that im seriously considering going in a different direction somehow , someway . i love my phone , kyocera brigadier, or at least i used to . but this has caused me to rethink my relationship with verizon after 5 calls to tech support after this update and nothing solved. (there are several annoyances im having with this last update ) but the biggest gripe is forcing me to change messaging apps due to one of the most ridiculous updates ive ever heard of . sound to text . wasnt that already an option ? so annoyed with verizon and this update . so thanks for everyone help but switching apps is not the solution but its all i can do . and i will never update my phone again .

solved the issue ? hardly .. everyday i am finding more issues with this latest update . the 3rd party messaging i had to start using (google messenger ) is a [removal required by the Verizon Wireless Terms of Service] . atleast 3-4 times a day the message window turns blank white , which gives the appearance that i deleted all my messages, and i cannot get back to messages without rebooting the phone . furthermore this phone now is hot all the time and the battery drains is ridiculous fast. the new notification (interupt) function is horrible and was so much better before . my phone which i really liked has now become a place of loathing . verizon tech support seems very friendly and want to help but they do absolutely nothing for any issue im having . what is the point of tech support if they cant do anything . the more i look into this the more i see many people are having the same issues with this update . i want a solution . not time wasting .

We can certainly understand the frustration. What steps have you already gone through to try and solve this issue? Has the device had a factory reset since speaking with Technical Support over the phone? You can find out how to do a factory reset for your device by going here: http://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-115434/ . Make sure all information you're wanting to keep is backed up before performing this step since it will delete everything.

what steps have i gone thru ? well ive tried several 3rs party messaging apps . none of which helped . they all lacked functionality and/or had serious bugs. i have not done a factory reset because i dont see what it would even help . the problems im experiancing all stem from the latest android update . every single day i have more problems with my phone . problems i never had before this update .i have talked to tech support three times and are very friendly but no one can help I don't understand how they put out a bad update ,that no one can do anything to resolve problems everything in my phone is buggy now and the batteries whack notifications are bad it the way it works is way is just way worse I would give anything about to go back to the old system, and I'll never update my phone again ever. Their so many little weird problems that I can't even remember them all to tell tech support when i call them. I don't see how a factory reset would do any good considering it will just go back to the same system again. And from what I can see online and many people are having the same problems. Why can't why go back to my old system in this one is buggy and is not ready. What good is tech support if they cant help? There must be a way to go back to my old system prior to the update because it's not acceptable .my phone is not what it was . my user experiences has gone into the garbage. So if the only solution is for me to do a factory reset ,just to make me have the same system again am very unhappy and hate my phone. Can I trade my phone in for the same model with the old system on it? that would make me happy . anything short of my old system and i will have to rethink my relationship with verizon .. this has caused me so much frustration im really contemplating alternatives to smart phones . or doing something drastic . maybe a beeper. so noe ne has been able to solve the problem so far . but i apreciate the help ,if you can actually help /

maybe your not understanding my problem . the issue im having can not be solved by a system restore as far as i know. the list of issues im experiencing is long . but the biggest issues are that the latest update has changed the functionality of the phone in a very poor way . does a factory restore convert the phone to the state it was in before the update ? because as far as i know, it cant be done . its not a case of just being buggy . the bugs are just the icing on the cake. im talking about the way i interface with the phone . message plus has been altered in extremely annoying ways . i tried 3rd party messaging apps . havent found any that work properly . the update has altered so many things on my phone ,for the worse, that its driving me nuts . i dont have the time to keep calling tech support . ive called 3x already and no one can do anything . I want my old system back . i want the phone the way it was before the update . doing a factory reset might fix some of the issues like high battery use and other bugs , but im more concerned with the changes that have been made to message plus and the overall functionality of the phone . so a factory reset is not the answer . why would i factory reset ,if it is going to just give me the same issue im having ?

OS updates are intended to increase the functionality of the device. If you don't like the new functions, then maybe you should consider a device that is already out of date and will never get any system OS update after your purchase of the device.

thanks ,i just might do that . although i was perfectly happy with my phone the way it was. I understand the need for os updates, but not if they make the phone more annoying to use. if you took your car to get serviced and when you picked it up , all the controls and ignition had all been moved under the seat, and it started using way more gas than before or the battery started dying , how would you feel ? just chalk it up to an update and live with it ? sell the car you loved to buy an older used car? that doesnt even make sense .

Start by going to a corporate store and getting a new SIM card. If that doesn't help you will probably need a factory reset.

I agree totally. This update is an insult. The audio text is so disrupting to me and everyone around me. I also am considering stopping my long standing use of Verizon because of some cog in a wheel sitting in a cubicle thinking up ways to justify their job. Got to change something to mke them look busy. Stop it!

ladyhawk1,
I definitely understand the frustration behind an app or feature that was dramatically altered. I would like to gather some additional details about what you are experiencing. The update being referenced in this thread was from several years ago, but all the same we don't want to see you going without help when you need it.
What make and model device are you using, and what was the most recent software version?
Software updates to smartphones contain countless behind-the-scenes benefits that you may never notice, but are crucial to the performance of the phone. Leaving an update in a pending status will cause more harm than good. It is for that reason that device and application software must always be kept up-to-date. Sometimes this means losing features or functions we love that were causing problems. This is the truth of every device and application, regardless of what carrier you use. Rest assured, any update that arrives is being sent for your benefit and has a valid reason, visible or not. I hope this information helps.

Sorry to say but the Messages+ function that you are referring to has been a feature for quite a while. You also have to hold that button or about 2-3 seconds minimum for it to record and send audio. (I am guessing that you are talking about the microphone button next to the text box that turns into the send button when you type). I agree that it is annoying but if your device is sending audio messages without your initiation then there is something wrong that is deeper than Messages+. Maybe a factory reset would help.

i dont care if that feature has been there for awhile . its one of so many annoyances , all of which stem from the upgrade and cannot be fixed by a factory restore. the way notifications apear now - horrible . it used to scroll across the top of the screen and read the text message or email , so i wouldnt have to even check the message . now a giant window covers the screen and simply says "notification "and tells me nothing . and i constantly have to close the window with the word notification on it . also there is a big emoticon right next to the stupid audio text . so now im accidentally sending emoticons to people . and the voice to text triggers in my pocket constantly ,and fills up my phone with recordings. you dont have to hold it for multiple seconds; you simply touch the button and let go of it . ive never heard of anyone sending an audio text . why would they stick that in such a crucial area ? in gmail , i can no longer locate the refresh button . where is it ? also my messages have been coming in with a serious delay . not always just 1 out of 20 or 30 . but atleast once a day ;.i have a list of other gripes but i guess its pointless. the phone runs hot now and the battery gets drained faster . imagine if you took your car for a service and they put the turn signals under the seat . or put the emergancy brake in the trunk ;. and the car started getting horrible gas mileage and the battery started losing charge . you would just accept it ? i highly doubt that . ill never ever update my phone again for fear of this same thing happening and i want a solution . the phone has had a loss of functionality and its not acceptable . i read forums and many people are unhappy as well. there has to be a way to go back to the old system . if i have to call text support again and nothing gets solved im gonna throw this phone in the trash and say goodbye to verizon.

It really sounds like you should just take it to a store and have them look at it. You might honestly do well with a factory rest.
The complaints you have regarding how Messages+ is set up are negated by the fact that it has appeared that way for at least a year. At least to me your argument doesn't stand. You are all the sudden having a problem with the UI after it has been that way for such a long time?
There are other messaging apps on the Play store. A plethora of them. You might want to try Textra. It seems to be the simplest UI.
