I keep getting the "unfortunately messaging has stopped" since yesterday. I've done the clearing of cache, disable, started in safe mode and it still came up. I've deleted threads, checked memory and have plenty, Updated on May 20 and it's a Droid Ultra. I've gone through all the threads here with similar issues and done all the troubleshooting they each suggested. Nothing is helping! This is driving me crazy. Help??

It is ridiculous. I posted how Verizon is selling phones that don't work, refusing to give ones that do, and charging for the service on my Facebook and will be contacting the Better Business Bureau. I feel a class action lawsuit coming.

Please, first no class actions are allowed per the US Supreme Court Decision.
Secondly, Verizon as a retailer just like Best Buy, Walmart, Costco or any other retailer is bound by the manufacturer one year warranty.
Contact the maker of the device if you have an inoperable device.
Best Buy and Walmart or any other retailer will not take the device back after 15 days. Why should Verizon take it back?
Verizon sells a service to the cellular and data network. Nothing else period. If your device cannot access the service that is an issue between you and the phone maker.
Good Luck

BrianP_VZW, the link you posted doesn't work. If there really is a fix, please post it again or tell us which Messaging App to download from the Playstore.

I am also experiencing this problem. At first I was getting the messaging has stopped error and everything would eventually work, but now I can't send or receive MMS at all. It's highly frustrating.
I'm currently trying out the Verizon Messages even though I should not have to.
Please Verizon/Motorola fix this.

Quick update: The Verizon Messages app does not cure my problem. I still cannot send or receive MMS through it.

I want to help ensure those messages go through JBZA218! What model device is this? What messaging app? Are you using wireless or wifi for your data connection? Does this happen on every message?

I upgraded my IPhone for the Droid Maxx a few months ago. I started receiving error messages with text messaging shortly after. (Unfortunately messaging has stopped.) I was unable to intermittently send or receive text messages. I restored my phone back to factory and the issue was fixed for a few days and then reoccurred. My daughter had the Droid Ultra and was receiving the same error messages. Verizon sent us both replacement phones. A few days later, we both started receiving the error messages again. My daughter went to the Verizon store and after spending two hours going from one person to the next was finally given a Samsung phone with the caveat that her account would be credited the additional $100 dollars the upgrade would have cost. When I received the bill, there was an equipment charge. We contacted Verizon and they said they canโt find any notes that she was told she would not have to pay.
My replacement phone started receiving the same error as the original one. I restored it back to factory several times and the error message returns. I talked with Verizon Customer Support and Technical Support several times and was told by 2 staff that this is a known issue with the Droids. The last call, I spent over an hour on the phone with Technical Support restoring back to factory, deleting apps, and updating the software. The error returned the next day. After talking again with Customer Support, Technical Support, and Technical Support Supervisor, I was told that I signed an agreement for a 2 year contract with them and I am not eligible for an upgrade unless I want to pay for a new phone.
My phone is basically useless and I have spent hours and used countless minutes talking to Verizon, and a lot of data reformatting and reinstalling software on my phone. Verizon is selling phones with known defects to customers and refusing to replace them with phones that work.

If you've read any of these threads, it DOESN'T MATTER which phone you have. This is affecting ALL Androids and ordering a new phone will NOT help!
The problem is in the latest Kitkat update to the pre-installed Messaging program on our phones. NONE of Verizon's suggestions will correct the problem! The only answer until Motorola fixes this is to delete Messaging and download Verizon Messaging. (I've also seem some who are trying "Messaging Classic". If you have more than one app installed and the old one starts working, you may send duplicate texts.)
WHY DON'T STORE PERSONNEL KNOW ABOUT THIS? DOES ANYONE COMMUNICATE? ISN'T VERIZON IN THE COMMUNICATIONS BUSINESS?
