I just completed a chat. I specifically asked about getting a transcript of the chat and the agent told me I would have the option to save the chat once it was closed. That turned out to not be true. Just a week ago I was able to copy and paste another chat. Today, that would not work. There needs to be a way (other than taking multiple screen shots) to save chats!

I've been looking into this as well. Luckily, I captured at least some of what I need through screenshots--- and, apparently, that is your only option. ๐
I read a reply from a VZW agent to a similar question from 2022 which said that they can see transcripts. I imagine they can still, but the only recent reply I've seen is that there is "no way" for a customer to access these records. I even read that copying and pasting the exchange (to Word or Notepad) is now blocked. This might've been a coincidence, but I realized later that several sets of my VZW screenshots were just black boxes--- as if they'd been blocked too. There were a couple I'd taken on my computer, but most were on my phone. I take lots of screenshots but none were blacked out except VZW... So I dunno... ๐

THIS IS A VERIZON liability shirking OF COURSE - they dont want ANY liability so who care about the dealing with the customer - they have us all by the you know what.......

I am growing weary of dealing with Customer "Service" wherein one cannot get guarantees (e.g. Cannot get promised made on chats sent as transcripts in an email.).

I have the same question. just finished a chat. the rep said it would continue to be available. I said End Chat, and now it appears to be "gone forever". is there a way to recover it?

I doubt it. My experience was 2 yrs ago, and I don't have any info on their SOP now, as I'm not a customer. But this is what I learned then:
1) Only use 'chat' as a last resort. It's just bots and people who are paid very little with the primary goal of wearing you out and getting you to shut up. Find a phone #if you can and record the conversation (preferably with an external device, using speakerphone.)
2) If you're forced to chat, DO NOT believe that a transcript will be available, no matter what the rep says. You have to screenshot. Don't use the app/your VZW phone, as your screenshots WILL BE black boxes. Use the website on your laptop, etc.---or--- just take pics of your screen from another phone.
3) If you cannot resolve your issue, DO NOT wait to file complaints. Try the email address you can find online for Corporate, then go straight to the appropriate govt agencies. I read of numerous problems that were suddenly fixed because of a report to the (alphabet agency). Good luck!
