Verizon.net Email Stopped POPing for me on Jun 16, 2024

My verizon.net email suddenly stopped POPing to Outlook desktop yesterday evening, Jun 16, 2024.  I've checked all the POP settings in Outlook, and they are correct.  I can view the email on the AOL web page and have logged out and back in successfully there.  I've exited Outlook and have rebooted my Windows desktop PC.   I didn't make any system changes.

When  I try to POP (automatically or by clicking the send/receive button in Outlook) I get prompted  to enter my info.  Doing so results in failure of receiving email with this error:

Task "myemailaddress - Receiving"reported error (0x800CCC92) : "Your email server rejected your login. Verify your user name and password for this account in Account Settings.  The server responded: - ERR[SYS/TEMP] Server error - Please try again later."

Since neither Verizon nor AOL support verizon. net email, I'm hoping perhaps someone her knows a solution.  I'm also wondering if others are suddenly having problems, though it doesn't appear so.

We're sorry about the issues you're having with your verizon.net e-mail. That e-mail system has been retired since 2018 and is no longer supported. You can find more information here on what your options are: https://www.verizon.com/support/residential/email

I've had a similar problem since June 13th.  I use  the latest version of Thunderbird (Ver. 115.11.1) and I started getting the message "Sending of password for user [email address removed per the Verizon Terms of Service] (Username redacted) did not succeed.  Mail server pop.verizon.net responded: [SYS/TEMP]   Server error - Please try again later."   Followed by the message, "Login to server pop.verizon.net with username [email address removed per the Verizon Terms of Service]  failed."  Then I get the choices to Retry, Enter New Password, or Cancel.

Now I have to login to AOL to view my email.  I use the same password on Thunderbird and AOL, so that's not the problem.  But I did change them, just in case.

Now here's the weird thing... I can send an email from Thunderbird and I receive it without any problems on my Yahoo and Gmail accounts. And that email shows up in my AOL Sent folder.

Server Settings: Pop.verizon.net
Port 995
Security SSL/TLS

Any Ideas?

Same issue, two Verizon.net accounts no longer work in Outlook.  Resetting the app password does not work either.   Outlook still works with Gmail, it's only Yahoo managed Verizon.net that seems to have an issue.   Not sure if Microsoft made a change to Outlook that broke the Yahoo! connections or if Yahoo! broke the interface intentionally or not.   However, since the spinoff and subsequent sale to a private equity firm that owns 90% of Yahoo!  If I had to guess, this is occuring at the Yahoo side of things and we all know how good they are at support.  SMH

I just checked the URL https://www.isitdownrightnow.com/pop.verizon.net.html   and got the message, "Pop.verizon.net is DOWN for everyone.  It is not just you. The server is not responding..."   Sigh...

Ummm.   A number of Verizon users continue to use their verizon.net email addresses via AOL mail.  I have been doing so since Verizon's departure from providing the service directly.  I continue to be a Verizon customer in other areas, and since anyone still using the verizon.net email domain was (and, like me, may still be) a Verizon customer, this Community forum is a place to try (in some desperation, since AOL, like Verizon, provides NO support for our foolish email choice of many years ago) to find help in solving a problem.  I have been POPing my verizon.net mail for many years.  Too bad that this no longer works, for who knows what reason.  Accessing my verizon.net mail via the AOL mail web interface means that mail since June 15 must be maintained separately and  is not as easily searchable, etc., etc., as the previously POPed mail was.  I guess I should be sensible and see this as a strong "writing-on-the wall" warning to get OFF verizon.net.
