I plan on only using the device when I am on vacation. I read some place that not all jetpack devices work on prepaid plans. i also read that if there is a long time between uses the SIM card needs to be replaced. Is this the wrong device for what I want to use it for? If so, what device would meet my need? My thought was to purchase a used device on eBay.

The Mifi 4620L Jetpack is not available Prepaid. The Mifi5510L (discontinued), MSH800L Ellipsis and Netgear AC790L are Prepaid Jetpacks. The recommended Prepaid Jetpack is the AC790L.
Unlike postpay, Prepaid doesn’t necessarily have a regular monthly bill. In fact, once time, minutes, data expire, you might not need to use the device and service for an extended period of time. For this reason, Verizon puts a time limit of 1 year from the date money was added, to add more money. If that expires you will have to take the device to a Verizon cooperate store to get it working again. YES, they will probably have to mail you a new SIM card.
