Hey take it easy now. The answer is yes there are prepaid plans available for the Droid and other smartphones. While you can get a prepaid smartphone in stores now, you will have to wait until Sept. 28th to get one online. As a side note to budone, why are you so upset that he asked? It was just a question. To the original poster, here's a link to Verizon's press release regarding the new prepaid offerings: http://news.vzw.com/news/2010/09/pr2010-09-02a.html     I am still wondering about the price though. We'll have to wait and see when it goes online. Hope this helps.

{word filter avoidance}, do some math people.

Say you are trying to get a new phone on your regular plan but your NE2 is not up yet.  Some people activate another line to get the cheaper price on the new phone.  So now they have a monthly bill of $10 + $30 for data for this new Droid (or whatever.)  So they move that smartphone to the line they really wanted to use it on anyway and then activate an old phone that doesn't require a data plan in its place so they don't have to pay the extra $30 a month.

That still doesn't really get you much because the supplemental line over the course of the required 2 years is still $240.  So, you'd only be getting your new Droid for about $400 instead of $500-$600...  What a waste of energy.

What does it really matter what they are charging for the phone on a prepaid plan?  Who really NEEDS a smartphone anyway?

Looks like you can get the BB and Droids on pre-paid now...at a hefty price.
